Hello my fabulous Podsquad, here is Podcast Thread III.

For anyone that is new to this thread, it's about my rescue dog, known as Pod.

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

for if anyone would like to go back and see how astonishingly naïve and traumatised I was by taking on a fully grown, teenaged pointy dog who seemed determined to destroy me and everything I love.

Theatrics over, here is the Pod in question (obviously I've edited the lead out - I'm not mental).

If anyone doesn't have is Insta handle and wants it, just DM me. A video of me and Pod doing yoga together will appear at some point soon.

Well done Pod, you've made your Mamma proud!

Scampuss · 31/01/2025 18:58

Well done Pod 🏆

WiddlinDiddlin · 31/01/2025 19:03

He's a Good Boi...

2025willbemytime · 31/01/2025 19:19

Well done Pod. ⭐️

But 3rd? How dare they!

Ellmau · 31/01/2025 19:53

Congratulations to Pod on his prizes!

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 31/01/2025 21:33

Funny isn't really Pod's thing. If they'd had a Most Elegant class though...

I know right?? It was the picture where he pulled all his bed out and he looked like a sheep. The winner was just pulling a weird face 😁

That's even worse! He should have definitely been first 🥇

He was robbed.

For someone who makes a frankly unholy amount of noise himself, Pod is very very anti- other people making noise of any kind.

He heard a dog outside earlier do ONE measley bark and he responded with seventy, I counted.

There are currently some children next door playing and kicking a football and he's doing his screamy-howly routine to be let out to shout at them in person.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh, but I absolutely love that you counted 😄

Ellmau · 01/02/2025 18:31

This is hilarious to read, perhaps less less funny for you...

Tbh if we lived rurally it wouldn't bother me. I let him in the garden and bark himself silly but there's this constant overhanging stress about the neighbours.

I took him for his evening constitutional early tonight as the barking has been almost constant. He spent fifteen whole minutes on one bush which he thought had a mouse in it (he does these little cross stamps with his front paws to flush them out). This is good as he usually races round his nighttime walk however this time in coincided exactly with me realising I think I've caught my friends kids stomach bug so I was trying to hold in a puke the whole way round.

And he's still barking. Urgh. Can't wait til he's all healed so I can run the legs off him again.

I'm also watching The Dog House on channel 4 (when Pod will permit - I can only watch it past a certain sleepiness threshold otherwise he goes mad. He thinks the dogs are inside the TV. When he saw a sighthound running he tried to join in). I absolutely adore this show but I think it maybe gives people an unrealistic idea of what rescuing a dog is like.

The people's stories are always so sad and they seem to be pin a LOT of hope on their new dog to solve a certain problem for them when I wonder if maybe it should be the other way around... Like...am I able to solve this dogs problems? When it works out it always sounds like it was brilliant from day one. Me and DP keep laughing about how Pod would get on on this show. Imagine the voiceover with that man's lovely warm voice saying, "Returned 31 times, a Wood Green record, this young Podenco is unable to meet prospective owners in the Designated Cosy Nook, due to having eaten the plants, cushions and dismembered all the toys. Here we have a retired World's Strongest Man with a heart of gold, a private fortune, no job or hobbies, 60 acres with 8ft fences and a pencent for steel furniture - could this be the one??". He'd need his own bloody show.

😂😂😂 I would watch that!!!

Techno56 · 01/02/2025 21:27

They accidentally put the whole of Dog House S7 on C4 catch up last weekend, before episode one had even been on real telly, I was delighted 😁

My husband doesn't like it as he thinks the sad stories are all pointless "I don't watch this for humans I watch it for dogs" 🤣

HangingOver · 01/02/2025 21:30

It's great telly but for once I wish they'd show a story where at the end they were like... "Yeah.... He's a great dog! I wanted to die for the first eight weeks... He ate one of my ears etc. "

OP posts:
WiddlinDiddlin · 01/02/2025 22:07

I'll tell certain friends - some of the trainers from The Dog Academy on C4 are... :) Thats a bit more realistic, but stuff has to be fudged even there as the market for 'this dog is struggling with life and genuinely is a nobhead to live with even if he doesn't mean to be' is limited - as is the market for watching slow, patient, positive training, vs wham bam, yank it around MAGIC its fixed (ie knackered and confused to the point of shut down eh, Twat in the Cravat..).

I definitely think there should be more 'we got a dog, its great, i spent the first two years trying not to let him kill himself and he spent his first two years trying to bankrupt me financially and emotionally' telly!

HangingOver · 01/02/2025 22:41

Maybe for just 5 mins of the show. They could do a section called "My Dog is A F*cking Nightmare" and everyone on it looks really tired a bit tearful while the dog wrecks the studio.

A doggy version of My Cat From Hell?

I would absolutely watch this. @WiddlinDiddlin I think you should front it.

FeralWoman · 02/02/2025 10:45

I’d watch it too!

I like The Dog House UK and The Dog House Australia but sometimes it’s just too sickly sweet and too many sob stories. I haven’t watched the most recent season because of it, plus I get jealous because I rent so I can’t have a pet. I would adopt all of the staffies. Give me a short, muscly, big headed, prone to being chubby, Velcro dog any day.

I second that. Scene starts with Widldin' cradling one of those fishbowl size GnTs with stick dog and Pod chasing eachother in the background.

I record The Dog House so I can fast forward all the sob stories and just see the lovely dogs.

It never used to always be sob stories but, like so many programmes now, became all about making viewers sad

FeralWoman · 02/02/2025 11:29

@mydogisthebest Like talent shows and singing shows? The contestants almost always have a sad story. Can’t they just be talented and great at what they do? Celebrate talent instead of vying for sympathy votes.
