Hello my fabulous Podsquad, here is Podcast Thread III.

For anyone that is new to this thread, it's about my rescue dog, known as Pod.

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

for if anyone would like to go back and see how astonishingly naïve and traumatised I was by taking on a fully grown, teenaged pointy dog who seemed determined to destroy me and everything I love.

Theatrics over, here is the Pod in question (obviously I've edited the lead out - I'm not mental).

If anyone doesn't have is Insta handle and wants it, just DM me. A video of me and Pod doing yoga together will appear at some point soon.

Oh Pod.

I suppose at least it's keeping him entertained?

2025willbemytime · 28/01/2025 22:54

He looks very smart.

whyhere · 29/01/2025 07:41

While he's chewing the suit he's not chewing himself!

While he's chewing the suit he's not chewing himself!

True but the maths are terrifying. 10 days recovery, average suit lasting 12 hours - 20 suits... 20 x £22 = £440 😂

How is he this morning?

HangingOver · 29/01/2025 08:11

The suit is still hanging on!! He mostly let DP sleep on the sofa but shuffled between rooms a bit, again I suspect just novelty factor of having his favourite human sleeping near him. I got a full night's sleep in bed, hurrah! Seems quite chipper this morning 🙂 Hopefully his new harnesses will arrive today which means a short on-lead to his favourite sniffy grass over the road will be possible a couple of times a day. I took him out for literally two minutes on a lead and collar but it was terrifying, he could absolutely get out of it if he tried hard enough. He has his post-op with the vet at 3. 🤞🏻

Give yourself lots of time to get him to the vets, he may be less than cooperative about getting in the car, after what happened last time you took him away from the house!

DancingFerret · 29/01/2025 13:16

This popped up on my FB feed and I immediately thought of Pod.

Aaaaah DP and Pod last night

He actually sleeps a LOT even when not having walks. I'm worried about tomorrow. DP leaves for London late tonight and is out tomorrow and I have three import Zoom calls to intermittently mute myself through while he shouts the house down 😁

His babygro!
I hope he is feeling fine, and the vet has good treats.

HangingOver · 29/01/2025 16:42

Yay! Vet approved him for "gentle on lead exercise" so I took him on a 15 walk to him favourite sniffy spot. Sadly he went completely insane because freeeeeeeedom. Wound looks okay but I'll keep a very close eye. She also sold me two more shirts for less than Amazon for when he finishes eating the current one. One is Zebra print 😂

I find if its internal or glued, it all heals up very quickly and they're highly unlikely to chew themselves open after day three.

If its external stitches though the pokey ends (And some vets will do very pokey sutures) can really dig in and catch and that makes them self-surgery... also some use disolvable stitches which is great if they do... but they don't always and then they irritate and some dogs will have a reaction to them which irritates... and results in DIY surgery.

Bless his bonkers self, he does look v dapper in his suit.

There are dozens of companies making dog coats and accessories. Have you considered renting Pod out as a 'Test to Destruction Dog?'. He does seem supremely qualified!

eggandonion · 29/01/2025 17:38

Our local rottie had both knees fixed...and really enjoyed unzipping the stitches.
We also have a local Bichon who is an influencer and gets free stuff. She is very special and hardly ever gets walkies.
Poor poddy soldier and his poorly procedure.

HangingOver · 29/01/2025 19:27

I think it's glued because I can't see anything now the dressing is off except an inch long cut... I think with three suits we'll make it through, hopefully. He seems MUCH happier this evening having had a walk. Annoyingly I have to wake him up and drag him out at 9pm to take DP to the station... Soooo tempted to try to leave him alone here are he's been completely fine before and not fine other times. I won't though. He might be scared (and shouty).

He looks so sweet and innocent asleep in his suit :)

PhoenixFlight · 29/01/2025 20:03

Pod looks so stylish in his romper suit. He could be a model!
Obviously not while eating it, though. 😮 😀

LadyGrillingSole · 29/01/2025 20:37

Is there anyone you could trust to dogsit Pod while you nip dp to the station?

If I wasn't stuck here in the midlands I'd happily sit/fuss/sing to him until you got back 😊

Any local Podsquad's up for poorly Podsitting, preferably highly regarded veterinary qualified ( imagine a veterinary Mary Poppins 😀) ? If you can think of someone it'd make things easier for you and your brave boy 🙂

HangingOver · 29/01/2025 22:24

I put him in the car in the end, it's good for him to get used to random trips. He had a little trot around the train station (ticket machine - alarming) and was completely obnoxious afterwards, humping and nipping and gardening (ripping the ivy off the wall). Now he's on his little bed with his minging cows hoof. I think I'll sleep upstairs tonight and hopefully he'll not get lonely. God the cows hoofs absolutely honk!

I did a zoom call with the rest of the Scentwork class today and tbh it's all a bit advanced for poor Pod. Sometimes the trainer describes a process of steps/options and Im just there thinking "he won't do that bit, or that bit, or that bit...". Bless him. The others are all scent location tiny pieces of red Kong and sitting quietly to indicate. Pods got as far as finding his ball under his blanket SOMETIMES. I keep explaining if it were a mouse he'd find it at the other end of a football pitch.

Oh dear, sounds like the train station freaked him out a bit 🙁 I'm sure he'll get more confident with each trip, though.

Maybe scentwork isn't Pod's superpower, but that's like expecting a beautiful model to win a dozen Nobel prizes - you can't have everything 😂 His snoz is made for beauty (and, possibly, finding stinky cow's feet) 😎

LadyGrillingSole · 29/01/2025 22:52

Oh, that photo is lovely 😍

Well done, Mr Hanging!

LadyGrillingSole · 31/01/2025 07:27

Hi there Hanging, how are you all doing? 🙂

HangingOver · 31/01/2025 18:48

Second suit is fully destroyed. Pod is back to looking like a tech entrepreneur in a black polo neck. He won two prizes in the local online dog show! 1st best dog born outside Cornwall and 3rd funniest dog 😁
