Hello my fabulous Podsquad, here is Podcast Thread III.

For anyone that is new to this thread, it's about my rescue dog, known as Pod.

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

for if anyone would like to go back and see how astonishingly naïve and traumatised I was by taking on a fully grown, teenaged pointy dog who seemed determined to destroy me and everything I love.

Theatrics over, here is the Pod in question (obviously I've edited the lead out - I'm not mental).

If anyone doesn't have is Insta handle and wants it, just DM me. A video of me and Pod doing yoga together will appear at some point soon.

Thank you PodSquad, I love you very much.

I dropped Pod off this morning in the worst POSSIBLE mood for doing something new and scary. I took him for a short walk (extreme weather here) this morning so he could do his poo but the wind had blown the food waste bins all over the place so he was thoroughly indignant at the shortness of walk and lack of scavenging/breakfast.

He whinged all the way there in the car and amused everyone in the waiting room by shaking his squirrel like mad. It looks cute and funny but he does it when he's stressed. The nurse was so kind. I apologised in advance for all the noise he's likely to make and left him.

You know the bits in the Philip Pullman books where you get heart-sick if your daemon is too far from you? It felt a bit like that.

Anyway on the plus side I have FINALLY got to play with my new wet vacuum cleaner (which Pod will not permit. Even if he's in the garden, he will not permit) and purged the sofa of four months of mud, it's drying in the sunshine with the dehumidifier on. I'll also quickly hoover all the bits to robot can't reach as regular hoover, mop and dustpan and brush are all not permitted by Pod.

House is freakishly quiet. She said he was having his 'pre-op' at 10. I wonder what he's doing. Shouting probably.

Ah, hope all goes well and he's back with you before you know it x

FeralWoman · 27/01/2025 10:33

My thoughts are with you @HangingOver . Hopefully Pod’s operation goes smoothly and his recovery will be boring and uneventful.

His pre-op should have him feeling nice and snoozy and chilled out. Or at least not shouting.

I showed my DH the dinosaur noises video of Pod. He was very amused by it. He’s been following the adventures of you and Pod via me.

LadyGrillingSole · 27/01/2025 10:39

You are doing the best for him - keep those words on repeat in your mind, because it's true, and your Podsquad is right behind you.

He'll be home, snuggled against you, being spoiled rotten before you know it 🙂

HangingOver · 27/01/2025 12:08

I feel like we need a new MN abbreviation. PFD (Precious First Dog).

Still no phonecall. Have cleaned entire house.

LadyGrillingSole · 27/01/2025 12:24

Try not to worry, Hanging, he's in good hands (easier said than done, I would be exactly the same - minus the cleaning 😀) and he'll think you've cleaned up especially for his return 😍

HangingOver · 27/01/2025 12:42

His little recovery suit has arrived. DP took one look at it and said, "he is going to eat that". He's not wrong. Still no call. HURRY UP.

Bupster · 27/01/2025 13:27

I know exactly, precisely what you mean about the heart-sickness. Bill (my PFD) had his first overnight at daycare last week and I woke up every hour and a half in my hotel room having dreamed of him, and conscious of the absence in my bed. He, the little sod, had a marvellous time and barely noticed I was gone (though he did try to bite my nose off when I picked him up).

Pod will be fine. Dogs live in the moment, and he is being loved and cared for. And when he's home you will get to do that again.

spiderlight · 27/01/2025 13:45

Oh gosh, I always talk about our Daisy being my daemon because she absolutely cannot be more than a few feet away from me. I haven't been to the loo on my own for over a year.

i hope you get the call soon! It's usually about 3ish, in my experience.

The saddest.

Awww, hopefully he will be back to normal (ish) soon!

2025willbemytime · 27/01/2025 15:27

That photo made me want to cry. Poor PFD. He'll be okay though. Enjoy any peace now..

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/01/2025 15:28

Too sad to even object to the romper suit?! PMSL. In the most respectful of ways obviously.

OccasionalHope · 27/01/2025 15:28

Ah, poor sad Pod.

OccasionalHope · 27/01/2025 15:28

Ah, poor sad Pod.

Oh, baby boy 💔

sallydoodlecat · 27/01/2025 15:34

Oh bless him. Give him space and time. I bet within 24 hours he'll be back. So horrid seeing them like that! Hope he recovers quickly.

LadyGrillingSole · 27/01/2025 15:44

Your poor boy 🤕

I'm sure I can hear the sound of the whole Podsquad sniffing as they try not to cry...

He's young and healthy, he'll be back to his old self in no time 🙂

NotISaidTheCat · 27/01/2025 15:45

Oh, poor Pod! Is he still a bit woozy from the anesthesia?

PhoenixFlight · 27/01/2025 15:52

Poor old Pod. But enjoy the peace!

Paws crossed the smart romper suit feels like a soothing blanket and not a new toy just waiting to be shredded.🤞🏼

DancingFerret · 27/01/2025 15:53

Poor boy must be wondering what on earth has happened - and probably won't be at all happy when he realises exactly what's happened. 😙❤️

FeralWoman · 27/01/2025 15:53

Poor Pod. I’m sure he’ll feel much better by tomorrow morning. A good sleep to sleep off the anaesthetic will help.

How hard was it to get the suit on him, and did you film it?

Shaved leg patches. That’ll spoil his modelling photos for a few months.

He didn't even wake up when I put it on 😭 He was just standing there swaying when we got home so I scooped him up and put him on the sofa but he kept swaying so I had to sort of encourage him to lay down inch by inch.

The romper is far too big even though I followed their sizing exactly but figured it'd keep him warm while he sleeps. He's not up to any stitch licking atm.

Apparently it's trips in the garden to pee only for FIVE DAYS. Eeeep.

Poor little mite. He's all tucked up under his blanket next to me. The vets said he was incredibly good and didn't make any fuss. ❤️

Poor boy… just needs a quiet evening and a good night’s sleep ❤️

OldSpeclkledHen · 27/01/2025 16:50

Ohhh poor baby 😢💙

My PFD went in for X-rays last year, they let me pick him up at lunchtime but he was still so woozy after sedation (so not even full anaesthetic), it was so sad

I remember panicking when the vet phoned to say he was ready, even though you know they'll be ok, it's feels like a lifetime until the vet says so - after they've waffled on for 39 minutes about the weather! Just tell me my pup is ok!

No fear though, my little Terror was back to being a dickhead by the evening (so make the most of the quiet!)

Pics of the romper suit though please 😂

HangingOver · 27/01/2025 20:51

Pod is awake. He shuffled over to his bowl for a meal and has been moping around the house squeaking and attacking the walls all evening 🥺 Managed a wee and a poop in the garden so that's a win. I was thinking I might sleep beside him in the living room tonight as a special invalid dispensation but one sight of the furry blanket sent him into ecstasy so he's not completely miserable.
