Hello my fabulous Podsquad, here is Podcast Thread III.

For anyone that is new to this thread, it's about my rescue dog, known as Pod.

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

for if anyone would like to go back and see how astonishingly naïve and traumatised I was by taking on a fully grown, teenaged pointy dog who seemed determined to destroy me and everything I love.

Theatrics over, here is the Pod in question (obviously I've edited the lead out - I'm not mental).

If anyone doesn't have is Insta handle and wants it, just DM me. A video of me and Pod doing yoga together will appear at some point soon.

We put a t shirt on one of ours, when he had a bum adjacent hernia repair.

Legs in the armhole and loose neck for poop purposes. We secured it with surgical tape around the bottom of the t shirt (not attached to the fur) leaving the pee area free. He was a much heavier dog, but it might work.

IME they heal pretty quickly

Good luck

So I wondered about the doughnuts but he is SO flexible from side to side that I think he'd be able to reach it.

Oh no, that's maybe a doughnut is not a great idea then.
Poor little prawn, but hopefully after he's milked it for all it's worth in terms of treats because you feel sorry for him, he'll be less hormonal & you'll be less bruised 🤞

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 25/01/2025 22:35

I don't know what kind of stitches might be appropriate after this particular surgery, but my dog had operations on both sides for luxating patellas. For the first one she worried at the stitches and it was really hard to stop her. When we told the surgeon he used different stitches for the second one, these were completely invisible from the outside and were a lot less troublesome for us and for her. So that might be worth discussing when you take him in.

Oh god, I've just ordered one of the little recovery suits with the bum flap. Poor Pod!

My old Lab was fine after his op and came home the same day with not much fuss, just a bit of whining in first 24 hours. He couldn’t cope with the cone though and neither could we as he kept charging into things with it on. In the end we took it off… not recommending this, just being honest. No loss of appetite but that’s Labs for you. Loss of appetite = death.

With current pup I’m going to try one of the inflatable cones & hope he will tolerate it better. No idea if it will work or not 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s not a big op for the boys, I’m sure Pod will be fine.

Obviously we are going to need photos 😀

Here’s my youngster all dressed up in her recovery suit… It went fine, but just don’t forget to undo the bum flap when you venture outside - as we once did 😆

Cute as a button! I think pod will just chew and rip it but I'll keep the cone in case of that. I feel a bit wobbly tonight about my boy having an operation! I have loads of surgery as a kid, how did DM bear it? I wonder if they'll let him take Kenneth in for moral support.

Sending good thoughts or Pod for tomorrow

ThePure · 26/01/2025 18:35

I'm afraid it was only the cone that worked for our large rescue boy. Suit he chewed through in seconds and the blow up ring he popped. Cone he could not defeat and he was able to eat and sleep with it.

He was very sad on Day 1 but near enough his usual crazy self thereafter but unfortunately he had a reaction to the sutures so the cone was on for a while. He did get used to it.

Sending good luck vibes to Pod.

FeralWoman · 26/01/2025 18:35

I love the idea of him taking Kenneth for support. Grin

That's what my dog had but I did remember to pop it open for walkies.

OldSpeclkledHen · 26/01/2025 19:19

Hope all goes ok tomo @HangingOver

Sorry POD, there's always more balls to play with - as my DPup knows his balls are always in my pocket 😝

Hope recovery is quick x

Oh Pod, you gorgeous, gorgeous boy. Hope your boy procedure goes well tomorrow-we will all be thinking of you and Kenneth x

TinyMouseTheatre · 26/01/2025 20:44

He really is the most handsome 😍

MaxandMoritz · 26/01/2025 22:32

Will be thinking of you tomorrow, Pod and Hanging.

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/01/2025 05:39

Thinking of you all... I find a cheeseburger does wonders to prompt the return of appetite in the post op houndface. (Get it without the onions obvs, onions not good for dogs. Cheeseburgers without onions are obviously top nutrition!).

Ellmau · 27/01/2025 07:37

Hope it all goes well today!

Twiglets1 · 27/01/2025 07:38

Good Luck to Pod today

mydogisthebest · 27/01/2025 08:26

Good luck to Pod for today. Give him a gentle hug from me when he returns home.

Pashazade · 27/01/2025 08:45

Hope Pod sails through today. He will be fine, you will be a hot mess, but he will wonder what all the fuss is about whilst obviously requiring much fuss and extra treats.

LadyGrillingSole · 27/01/2025 08:57

Thinking of you and Pod today, hopefully he'll sail through and be back on his paws in no time 🙂

Scampuss · 27/01/2025 09:36

Good luck for Pod today 🍀

spiderlight · 27/01/2025 09:43

I hope it all goes really smoothly today. We've dealt with four surgeries between two dogs in the past two years and found the recovery suits a lifesaver - much less distressing for al concerned than a lampshade! You'll probably need several, though - we ended up with five for our girl after she had two lots of flank surgery last year.
