Tail Amputation Costs

My GSP unfortunately needs his tail amputated. He is booked in with the vets next week and have been chasing a price but they haven't confirmed this yet. Has anyone had this done and know a rough figure to expect? Thanks!

It's not something I've had to do. Is the operation covered by insurance?

Not dog but about 5 years ago my cat had half tail amputated after damaging it. It was done at an out of hours vets so probably more expensive and was £950

just short of £700
i am surprised they havent given you a quote though

I'm sorry I can't help with costs now, but we had to have this done for our GSPxVizsla many years ago. It wasn't cheap, I do remember that.

It can be a very painful operation so be sure the vet provides enough pain killers. Our dog took a long time to heal (blood supply to the tail is poor) but once he had, he never looked back.

Unfortunately undocked HPRs are very prone to tail injuries. I know several who have gone through the same.

Thanks everyone! Vets practice seem to be still unable to tell us a price, so going with another one.

Never had problems with his tail before but do know this happens with GSPs.
