My dog died today

Hello, my 16 year old dog died this afternoon. She had a grade 5/6 heart murmur and was frail but she was eating and drinking. It happened so fast. I was in the shower and found her in her basket, having soiled it, agonal breathing. I rushed her to the vet but she died as soon as I arrived. I absolutely loved her so so much. She was like a child to me and she my 9 year old daughter adored her. She told me she saw her collapse when i was in the shower but didnt tell me. I wish she had. I've experienced loss before but my God this hurts. Everything reminds me of her. I miss her so much. Please tell me it gets easier. I wish I'd spent more time with her today but she seemed OK. My heart is broken.

I am so sorry.
If it's a small, small comfort, I would have loved to be able to bury my darling girl in the garden where she was so happy. But she was too big, and the garden too small. Otherwise she'd be there now, under the stars, like your lovely girl.

@Onedaynotyet I'm so sorry you couldn't bury your darling girl in your garden. I'm sure you found a beautiful resting place for her though. My beautiful girl is now buried in the garden, wrapped in her soft blanket I got her for Christmas. I put with her a couple of toys a poem my daughter wrote about her when she was younger and letters to her from my daughter and I. I'll plant some beautiful flowers. A little robin has been hanging around in the garden lately and after we buried her, he appeared on her grave. I like to think it's some sort of a sign.

It sounds a perfect place for a tired little dog.

I’m so sad to read this. They leave a dog-shaped hole in your life, I know. No one ever loves you as a dog does. Be comforted that she knew you adored her and gave her the best life possible.
