Can anyone help? A while ago someone posted a great video of a trainer teaching the settle command. It's something my lab struggles with and I'd like some help. I can't find it and wondered if anyone could signpost it.
Thanks

The best way really is capturing. So when dog settles then reward. Repeat repeat repeat. Choice is powerful to dogs so if they choose then get rewarded then they’re likely to choose again. That’s how I’ve achieved it with my very busy young terrier.

currently wondering exactly how many crates of dog treats that would take with our boy 🤔

I've found a clicker works well. Teach the place cue, and extend duration.

It worked for this 11 month old Springer who is our house guest, and my labrador.

Our know 'go and lie down' 😂 or 'bed' which works for us. We have working dogs and the spaniels especially need to be taught to settle as they won't of their own accord!

He knows 'bed' and is very good at going to his bed and we're working on duration. What I really need is a 'settle' that can be done anywhere, to lie down next to me and wait. He's a 3 year old lab and has always been a 'high energy' pup. If he was a child we'd suspect ADHD! We've had male labs before, similar backgrounds, always from pups and never had such a demanding, high energy dog. On the plus side, he's affectionate and loving. He loves to train, play sniffy 'finding' games and walk. He used to pull like a train but we've worked on that and he's mostly good (until he forgets or sees a friend).

Puppy tax. A quiet moment on my knee.

Watching with interest. Ours is 3 and he still hasn’t mastered it despite many hours of training as per suggestions above!

Yes, he's had more, and more consistent, training than any other dog we've had. It's just his personality. I keep forgetting how far we've come. I just look at how far we've still got to go. He's a handsome boy though. Sometimes its his only saving grace 😂
