Not sure why that didn’t post

I can see what you mean about Rundle's eye @MooseBeTimeForSnow and oddly, Brie is the same on the left. She has more colour and dark pigment around her left eye so on photos her face can look quite lopsided. In real life she looks as if she has a beautifully pencilled left eyebrow but has forgotten to do the right one 😆

CoubousAndTourmalet · 10/01/2025 22:58

Wow! Those eyes are incredible @MooseBeTimeForSnow . Beautiful puppy, just exquisite ❤

CoubousAndTourmalet · 10/01/2025 23:07

I think you can see the dark eyebrow on this photo.

Beautiful girl. I like how her neck/chest hair forms a heart shape when she’s sitting like that. And I see what you mean about the eyebrow!

Nella68 · 10/01/2025 22:09

Brie looks very content outside!

She really is. They're very much an outdoor working dog, particularly the bitches - the dogs are a bit more content to snuggle up on the sofa.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 11/01/2025 09:33

Well, it was far colder in Scotland; Altnaharra -18 😱 but we didn't get below -5 through the night here. Just below freezing now, sunny and beautiful.

brushingboots · 11/01/2025 09:44

Car update for anyone interested. Truck 1 still dead, unsurprisingly. Truck 2 can't even be opened as the door locks have frozen over and no central locking. An exciting, Halfords-centric day ahead!

brushingboots · 11/01/2025 09:48

Further addendum as dog-dad has just come in: 'Truck 2 started straight away. Why do you think the army still use them?' (And he'd know.) So at least we can leave the house today! Even if it is to go to Halfords for a new battery for the other one, the key for which is currently stuck in the (electric) ignition.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 11/01/2025 10:09

Second post sounds more hopeful @brushingboots

Fortunately our ancient ratty old Skoda estate started okay for a quick run to nearest supermarket for milk & veg.

The gritboxes on our hill are seeing good use but a lot of people are still staying put or getting out on foot. The wheelie bins are still sitting unemptied from last Monday and we can't remember when that last happened...

The girl has disgraced herself by pulling the insulated cover off the outside tap this morning so she could chew on a bit of hessian that was wrapped around it. She is now massively sulking after being told off and brought indoors.

tizwozliz · 11/01/2025 10:25

Current reading at home, but it's stunning this morning.

Survived the night without getting gassed by noxious fumes emanating from little ones bottom after the food at the vet. Was all set to come out with me when I took older one out but was persuaded away from the door with some food.

Utterly gorgeous out today. Bill went fen skating, and discovered the delights of frozen horse poopsicles 🙄

Then we stopped off at our enclosed dog park on the way home so he could have a quick play with his besties, where he also discovered he can get under the flexible fencing and into the hedge that blocks access to the residential care home next door. So my day is going to be hunting around the house for tent pegs and a mallet...

Gosh, you're a lot colder than us @tizwozliz , we're at +2 right now!

Glad your younger girl is doing okay after her spay (aside from being windy).

YorkshireFelix · 11/01/2025 10:44

@Bupster that photo with the sun in the background is glorious!

Hope you get your car troubles sorted today @brushingboots

@CoubousAndTourmalet the 'forgotten to pencil her other eyebrow' comment made me laugh so much. I can totally see it from the picture too!

@tizwozliz how is she doing after the spay yesterday? I know nothing about spaying really - do you have to keep her in to rest or anything?

@MooseBeTimeForSnow I say this every time but Rundle is stunning! His eyes are the best 😍

Ah, poopsicles are always one of the delights of winter for our chaps too @Bupster

Good luck in confining the escapologist; once they find a weak point, they never forget 😰

YorkshireFelix · 11/01/2025 10:48

-2 here now but the sun is shining. An actual gritter just went up our street for the first time but I'm not sure it was letting any grit out. I'm surprised it's not been done at all this week since the primary school is just further up from us. There's no grit bins at all in the village either which is annoying!

Going to try and get the car out today so I can pick up Vinny's tablet from the vets. I was going to say I need a hardy Land Rover like @brushingboots but maybe not now 😂

brushingboots · 11/01/2025 11:02

@YorkshireFelix the mythical gritter! Really hope you can get out into civilisation today.

I said this to dog-dad and he said 'the Defender started fine in its defence!' And to be fair we are now in the woods and I can confirm that it is running like a dream. Ironically it's the non-classic Landy that's died.

Nella68 · 11/01/2025 11:24

@brushingboots An old Land Rover is my dream car. If only I lived in the countryside!

@YorkshireFelix fingers crossed for getting the car out.

@Bupster We’re off to the stables this afternoon for my daughter’s lesson- it’s Midge’s favourite time of the week- so much poo to eat!

It’s a beautiful morning here, all misty when I left the house but the sun has burnt this off. It’s been great being able to walk in the areas that I normally avoid due to the quagmire of mud and come home with clean paws!

I did a bit of longline recall today. I let him off lead in the quieter area and he kept his eye on me and circled round in the undergrowth having a whale of a time. Problem was getting him back on the lead. I called him back and instead of stopping by me he’d immediately charge off in the opposite direction. I was glad he was staying fairly close to me but it’s very frustrating that he wasn’t stopping long enough to get a treat. I’ve been alternating lead and off lead to try to prevent him thinking lead on = home time and end of play.

Put him on the longline in the meadow area and he did really well coming back and sitting when called. I think the presence of the line reminded him I was there. Also close walking with lots of changes of direction went well…. Until a dog bounded over, Midge charged off and I did a 180 spin and landed on rock hard grass on my hip and wrist- luckily no apparent damage!

YorkshireFelix · 11/01/2025 13:06

@Nella68 oh gosh, glad you are ok!! Sounds like you are doing fab otherwise!

@YorkshireFelix - she has a lap spay so healing a bit quicker than a traditional spay. Restricted exercise for the next few days, should avoid jumping, stairs etc. but some of this is easier said than done! At the moment she's fine as long as she doesn't have the surgical suit on. Once that's on she's the saddest dog in the world. Thank goodness she doesn't have to have a cone. Checkup on Monday.

YorkshireFelix · 11/01/2025 13:07

We got out on a walk finally!!! It was awful but he didn't pull as bad as I expected him to. Once you've slid down our street and down a few of the side streets it's much clearer now. We went slowly and I let him sniff everything so I think he's happy now 😄

Oh bless her. I've always wondered how people manage to stop them doing stuff after surgery etc! I've seen on the cocker groups where some have had to be a crate rest for a few weeks and it must be so difficult. Hoping she has a swift recovery.
