How are you and Milo today @CaptainBeanThief ? Hope you're coping okay with the cold...

YorkshireFelix · 10/01/2025 13:15

@tizwozliz ah hope everything went smoothly for her!

Milo is fine thank you -
He's still being his same old cheeky chappy self with abit of annoying devil mixed in.
Freezing here still.

@CaptainBeanThief That fluffy chest! So lovely. Every time I see an update on the 'are you walking your dog in this weather' thread (on which I have not commented) I think fondly of you hahah xx

CaptainBeanThief · 10/01/2025 18:16

@brushingboots
You'll actually be surprised Milo loves the snow and will leap at any chance to get out in it 🤔 he's an odd dog - though I'm not feeling well today so we've just been out in the garden frequently and I'm waiting for my husband to get home.
He's been abit of an arse today irritating me, he's always licking my furniture or my feet and it goes through me, I don't know why 🤣

YorkshireFelix · 10/01/2025 20:02

Freezing here too! Going to be -10 tonight apparently 🥶

I think we're expecting similar @YorkshireFelix , we had -9 this morning at 3am. It's felt bitterly cold all day.

Vinny is definitely in the right place!

brushingboots · 10/01/2025 20:30

I am thanking the geography gods that our overnight low is set to be just a balmy -4! Sending warm vibes to you guys further north as I can't quite comprehend -10 in this country.

It still managed to be cold enough here last night that my car didn't start this morning to go on our planned woodland walk though so that's this weekend's problem to solve. Yay.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 10/01/2025 20:52

That's a pain abut the car @brushingboots , I hope you can get it going.

We have a weather station in our garden so if we get to minus 10 we'll know. Last night was the coldest we've ever recorded (in about 15 or so years of it being there). I had to pull chunks of frozen snow/ice out of Brie's coat after she'd been sitting out this morning; she's rugged even by PMD standards!

YorkshireFelix · 10/01/2025 21:05

@brushingboots positively tropical where you are! I usually don't mind winter but I will be so happy when spring comes around this year. Maybe it's the addition of a dog that's done it.

Hope you manage to get your car sorted and it's nothing too bad!!

Sorry about the car, @brushingboots - I haven't dared go near mine - it's 23 years old and bits fall off it at the best of times.

I did attempt to persuade himself yesterday that three nice short easy outings to the dog park were a perfectly reasonable way to spend a couple of freezing days, but by this morning I was very clear that they were not if he was going to survive a second day without me throttling him or myself 😄 So we were out at 8am in -3° with bits falling off of me.

Himself sleeping peacefully having happily bounced around chewing the ice 🙄

I'm glad someone else has an ice chewer @Bupster it's been driving me mad - she wanders in with huge chunks of it in her mouth.

brushingboots · 10/01/2025 21:22

Ahhh thanks gang, v kind. It's a classic Landrover battery/alternator issue so straightforward but tedious. Could almost set my watch by its reliability to conk out. And to think every other day this week I've taken it for a 'walk' (ie 40-minute drive on the bypass) to keep it going. All for nought!

Today has been a rather dispiriting day overall but I am pleased to report that pupsy managed to walk quite nicely to heel for approx half of her 35-minute pavement/ice rink lead walk this evening so I am taking that as my sole win. I just couldn't go to be outside any longer but she's asleep now so think it was plenty.

Bless his chonky self, @Bupster, though he somehow manages to look quite small there. They are weird contortionists.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 10/01/2025 21:26

We’re having a warm spell, so it’s refreshing that it is colder there than it is here! I have Rundle booked into two different introduction to agility classes. All done on the ground, no jumping until they are at least a year old and approved by a vet.

He managed to find a chunk the size of half a dinner plate and just wandered around with it in his mouth showing people and wagging his bum for ages 😄

His other thing at the moment is to dig up the shrubbery wherever I walk him. He either emerges pulling on an entire tree root, or with a massive stone he then tucks into his cheek like a squirrel (I thought he had mumps the first time), or carting a stick round like a cigar. Little chonky weirdo 😍

CoubousAndTourmalet · 10/01/2025 21:44

Difficult to believer we're colder than you @MooseBeTimeForSnow !!!

Rundle looking very handsome, as ever 😍

CoubousAndTourmalet · 10/01/2025 21:49

@Bupster
Bill & Brie would get along well with their shared love of ice chunks, tree roots and stones. Her gob is never free from random stuff she finds to chomp on 😡I do wonder where the hell she finds half of it...

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 10/01/2025 21:51

Thanks @CoubousAndTourmalet

Rundle is also obsessed with ice. He also loves catching snowballs, although they don’t hold together all that well as the snow is very dry.

The snow is dry and powdery on the fields here at the moment - I couldn't manage to make snowballs for Brie, but it's very hard and compacted on the paths. Being in the north west we're more used to wet, slushy, mushy snow that disappears within half a day, so it's been a strange week with it lying icy and thick.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 10/01/2025 22:03

Girl lying out in the cold and dark. It's not easy getting her to come in for bedtime.

Brie looks very content outside!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 10/01/2025 22:18

Oh dear. Rundle has just freaked out a parcel delivery man. I guess he’s never seen a dog with light blue eyes before! Poor chap wouldn’t come anywhere near him. Just kept saying “his eyes!”. Practically threw the package at me and legged it!

CoubousAndTourmalet · 10/01/2025 22:45

His eyes are beautiful @MooseBeTimeForSnow, he is a stunning dog and I know he'll be far more striking in reality.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 10/01/2025 22:51

If you zoom in you will see that his merle
colouring extends to his right eye - it looks like he had a droopy eyelid but that is actually a crescent of brown at the top of his eye.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 10/01/2025 22:54

He was a proper blue eyed boy as a little puppy <wistful sigh>
