@CaptainBeanThief is that all his fluffy chest?? He looks like he's cuddling one of those fancy chickens 😄 What a gorgeous boy x

CaptainBeanThief · 18/12/2024 17:29

@Bupster
Yes 😁
He could do with another groom but I can't bring myself to do it because when we are having a cuddle which is around 19 hours a day I like twiddling my fingers through it and its a comfort to me him 💕
He's been a lovely boy today,
So many cuddles and clinginess and just not giving me the run-around hehe

brushingboots · 18/12/2024 17:50

@CaptainBeanThief Love it!! He’s such a little sweetie. We are having an official grooming session tonight: she’s filthy and her grinch toes have made an appearance again so the scissors are coming out. Glad to hear you’re doing a bit better, despite some of your appalling NHS experiences xxx

CoubousAndTourmalet · 18/12/2024 18:39

OMG @CaptainBeanThief that sounds quite scary 😨
Can't your GP send you to SDEC so you don't have to wait around in A & E? When I woke up with no feeling down my left side they sent me straight to SDEC at Bolton hospital, with a load of paperwork, so I could be checked over for stroke. It meant I could walk straight in and be assessed without waiting in A&E, which makes me panic at the best of times. I don't blame you for not wanting to go though, maybe you are better off at home snuggling with gorgeous fluffy Milo to lower your BP... But it does sound poor from the cardiology dept...

Bupster · 18/12/2024 18:53

Hope you're okay, @CaptainBeanThief - that actually sounds quite serious, but I don't blame you in the least for going home. A&E is no fun at all this time of year. My sister managed to slice her hand open yesterday evening, finally got stitches with no anaesthetic and iodine at 1am - she said it was like the Boer War 😄

In far stupider news, I managed to get a Sainsbury’s delivery - my absolute liability had his furry nose right in the crates and ferreted out the bananas. All very funny and I’m still laughing as I put away the bread, but it’s all gone quiet - I look in the next room and he’s pulled a box of panty liners off the table and is ripping them apart. I rescue them, start putting away the milk, he’s opened the bacon and is licking it 😄 I shove the rest of the meat away as fast as I can - he’s gone into the last bag and has had it away with the Christmas Roquefort. Don't even ask what it was like trying to wrap presents today. He had two rolls of sellotape and the pen and narrowly missed grabbing the scissors and running for it.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 18/12/2024 19:03

@Bupster 😂
I'm convinced that if this was on any other thread, people would make the not unreasonable assumption that you are the mother of a three year old child....

thewalrus · 19/12/2024 10:11

@CaptainBeanThief that all sounds alarming with your health; I hope you're OK. Don't blame you for wanting to avoid A&E, but do look after yourself.
Your dogs are all making me laugh this morning. Adolescence is really not easy.
We are making small amounts of progress, sometimes, but she was terrible today. She loves chasing the birds on the beach at the moment - the pied wagtails seem to play with her and fly just in front of her and she thinks it's great fun. She would not listen to me at all today and ran up and down the beach yapping and chasing the birds for ages, basically until she tired herself out. Luckily the weather is so crap that the beach is just full of dog walkers, who thought she was hilarious. (I did have an encounter with a woman with two enormous GSDs - Bear stopped to say hello to them so I went charging over with a view to grabbing her while distracted and the woman thought I was scared of her big dogs on Bear's behalf and was quite defensive about how friendly they were. All fine once I explained my motive - it made me think about the added pressures those of us/you with large breeds face and the judgements people make about them though.)

YorkshireFelix · 19/12/2024 11:48

How are you feeling today @CaptainBeanThief?

Sorry I have been reading but I'm on the rubbish app and can't see anyone's previous posts as I am typing! I have been laughing at all the escapades too 😄

Vinny's new thing is incessant barking at everything. He just stood and barked for ages at a bag of rubbish I had put out in the yard as I was cleaning. He never used to bark at anything! It's highly annoying.

@CaptainBeanThief
I hope you're having a better day and that your blood pressure is closer to normal...

@YorkshireFelix
Hopefully the barking is just another early adolescent phase that will pass.

@thewalrus
Bear's beach play sounds highly entertaining - I bet most people find her irresistibly cute.

YorkshireFelix · 19/12/2024 14:01

Thanks @CoubousAndTourmalet, I'm hoping a lot of it passes quickly. I used to love walking him and now I dread it every time. It's crazy how things can change in such a short space of time! Puppies are rollercoasters!

CoubousAndTourmalet · 19/12/2024 14:03

@thewalrus
In response to your comment about pressure with large breeds; yes, it is an issue. I commented to Bupster recently when her and Bill had trouble on a walk, that I think people are more wary of dogs these days anyway, it could be the Bully effect to some extent and it is understandable. But it's always been there to some degree - with our lot we've always found that most people will either love them or hate them; it's either wanting to stop and cuddle them, or crossing the road to avoid them/pulling their child or dog away.

People do have strong feelings about very big dogs (you see that here on MN all the time), and we're always mindful of that, it's why we don't risk letting them off the lead in public. We've been lucky with ours, they've all been good around dogs and kids, but their size is very intimidating when you're not used to it.

With Brie (almost 9 months) being so boisterous at the moment, I'm slightly nervous/apprehensive that I could get abuse from someone who sees her as not being well-controlled...I'm having to constantly explain that she's just a playful puppy. She wants to make friends with every dog and every child, but of course she has to learn that not everybody wants that.

So yes, you're right, with a big powerful dog there is always added pressure and the fear of being judged, but it's just something you have to accept. Same with the sexism that you inevitably encounter being a small female with a gigantic dog 🙄but that's another story for another day...

It's all worth it though. Totally ❤

Oh, that they are @YorkshireFelix , that they are 🙄

Same here, used to love walks with Brie up until she was 6 or 7 months old but now it's become exhausting.

It'll change again, don't worry. One day at a time. Hopefully the beach walks on your Yuletide break will bring V a new perspective.

CaptainBeanThief · 19/12/2024 14:10

Good afternoon all.
I took my increased dosage of bisoporol yesterday and my heart rate seems a little more under control although I was struggling to keep my oxygen above 94 last night.
I've just been on a run with Milo.
I don't know what's going on today but I had a comment off a taxi driver picking up my neighbour on how utter beautiful he is! ( He definitely is)
Then when I returned home ( in my car) a council working doing the gardens told me he was a stunner of a dog I said I know smugly and he said that he was a " good boy " i wanted to correct him and say no he isnt and he told me he has a cocker spaniel and she's mental 🤣

Thank you all for always being so concerned about me, to be honest Milo keeps me going and it's best for me to keep active with my heart - I do struggle every day - every single day but it's always best to keep active and do as much as I can, my husband always picks up the slack so Milo never goes without. People always said I was mad, due to my health and just coming out of hospital when I got him but we've made this work and I'm so glad.
He frustrates me day in and day out and I'm forever losing my rag but I do love him so much
And I love my doggy friends on here, my support network and I couldn't do it without all of you 💖💖

CoubousAndTourmalet · 19/12/2024 14:42

Hi @CaptainBeanThief I do worry about you and I'm glad you & Milo got out today. I hope you can stabilise your heart rate, BP and oxygen without needing to go to hospital, it'll be like a warzone in A&E this weekend with all the boozing 😵

See - we all keep telling you that Milo is a handsome boy, his coat is beautiful and he is a real credit to you, no matter how much you might joke about him being bonkers. He is a gorgeous dog!

I face nowhere near as much physical adversity as you do, yes, I have some neuro/spine stuff, but mostly with me it's MH related (anxiety). I understand what you're saying and I feel your connection with Milo. Your therapy dog really can be your lifeline when you have any sort of long-term health issues. When we had three years with no dog, I was agoraphobic to the extent that I couldn't leave the house or speak to anyone. Now we have Brie I can go out for walks and I will sometimes talk to people a bit. Having a dog makes such a massive difference to our wellbeing. So you & Milo are inspiring me to really work on building my relationship with my girl ❤

Getting my boots on and going out with Brie just now cos (miracle) it's not raining 😱

YorkshireFelix · 19/12/2024 14:45

Aww that is so sweet @CaptainBeanThief, I feel the same way about everyone here! I am so worried about the next few months but I know the support here will be invaluable.

I am so glad you're feeling a bit better today. And he really is a stunner! I love how all of our dogs look different (apart from Vinny and Pupsy who are two peas in a pod 🤣) and how they all have such funny personalities. Milo is gorgeous, I would love to give him a big snuggle. You are doing an excellent job with him.

@CoubousAndTourmalet I am very excited for the beach. We are also going a further bit north up to Amble on Boxing Day as my parents are staying in a cottage there over Christmas, so maybe he will be spoilt and get two beach trips!

Gratuitous pupsy portrait from this morning for anyone not on Instagram! She is so game, it’s amazing. I’ve spent a large part of today interviewing gundog trainers for a piece I’m writing so I suspect tomorrow morning’s walk is going to be a very training heavy one. Poor old girlie.

Pupsy looks absolutely frazzled - in a good way! :-)
She is lucky to have you 💖

@YorkshireFelix @CaptainBeanThief She was just so up for it this morning, really fizzy but in a nice way, really keen, super engaged so I said, 'go up' and up she went! I'm lucky to have her, more than anything. She is chief joy bringer.

brushingboots · 19/12/2024 15:17

@Bupster He opened the bacon?! Bill clearly has some human-shaped thumbs. All very funny but less funny for your food delivery.

@YorkshireFelix I hate to say it but pupsy only really found her voice properly when she got to about his age, when she suddenly developed a habit of barking through human mealtimes. Not attractive. It’s got a lot better but dog-dad finds it absolutely infuriating, and to be fair he isn’t wrong. It’s ok when it’s just her and I as I can manage her with a Beco bone stuffed full of tripe (vom) but he eats soooooo slowly. Very much ‘by all means move a glacial pace, you know how that thrills me’ vibes. She doesn’t do it at any other time so presume it’s just purely brattish behaviour.

Don’t be worried about the next few months – we’ll always help here and you can always message me here or on the other place if you need. After the early puppy stage you can do anything!

@CaptainBeanThief Lots of love to you and you know where we are whenever <3 Take the compliments! He is beautiful and however irritating he might be he does you the world of good, by all accounts.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 19/12/2024 16:06

Beautiful photo @brushingboots

Bupster · 19/12/2024 16:52

@brushingboots that's an absolutely hilarious photo of pupsy, she looks like she's travelled through several hedges backwards and she's still gorgeous.

And yes, I have no idea how the little sod got into the bacon, I can't open the bacon half the time. I don't mind having an intelligent dog at all but it gets embarrassing when they're brighter than you are 😄

Had a puppy-sitter for an hour at lunchtime so I could go to a piano lesson - I'm terrible and have actually gone backwards since he arrived as he hates me practicing, but I keep it on for sanity. I don't leave him alone yet (cf yesterday's shenanigans), plus he loves this sitter and she takes the most wonderful photos of him (evidence attached).

@Bupster bill is a handsome man and he knows it!!
I need to find my own sitters / dog walker for in the day.
Me and my husband have just been on a walk with my devil in carnation, we let him off because we thought we had turned a corner stupid me and we struggle to him back on, he always plays up when me and my husband are together and I don't know why ?!
Anyway he had a really good, crazy run so no harm done other than my sanity

Bupster · 19/12/2024 18:08

Just posted this on fb and thought you needed to share the joy.

Things Bill has made off with since we got back from the dog park at 4pm:

The scissors
A bag of kibble
A whole strand of tinsel
A packet of cream crackers (rescued)
A garden hose attachment, which has made me laugh so hard I can’t bear to take it from him, even though he keeps bringing it to me and resting it on my lap

Milo seems to have a real knack of going to sleep when he hears the phrase "right we are going for a walk" and/or putting on of the dreaded harness
Suspect in action below
He's not doing the pose though, I'm afraid
