Waiting for biopsy results

My dog has been really poorly for the last few months. We all thought it was IBD and she was moved onto a Hypoallergenic diet and B12 supplements but she has gotten worse while on this. She's had to get a biopsy of her stomach as the scans were inconclusive and top of her stomach wasn't visible. The vet said the scan looked really odd. They didn't find anything in her stomach other than inflammation and swollen lymph nodes. Waiting for biopsy results but will take a week or two. I shouldn't have googled but now convinced she has GI lymphoma. She's also a rottweiler cross which is one of the breeds more susceptible to lymphoma. I am probably overreacting but she is my world and only 2 years old 😢 not really a question I'm just spiralling!

Oh @runningaway90 , what a worry for you 😔. I know there are a few vets on here, plus other related staff, so I really hope that one of them will be here in a bit with some advice/reassurance.

In the meantime, I'm afraid all I have to offer you is a handhold. I have several dogs myself and I totally understand how worried and upset you must be. 🐾💐

Thank you 💐I feel a bit silly for being so upset and worried but I think other dog owners get it. Hopefully she will be okay but the googling just confirmed my fears that it could be cancer from what they found so feeling more worried but I need to just wait and see.. and stop googling!

Don't be daft, I totally understand. I do exactly the same myself with Google - I like to think that I've got every possible scenario covered! It's natural isn't it? We feel so worried and the delay is out of our control, so we want to almost get ahead of the situation by reading every eventuality!

Bless you, I hope you get positive news.

our 4yo cocker spaniel has lymphoma and it’s been devastating initially but now he’s on chemo. We’re very early days and treatment is weekly until end of March. His lymph nodes were swollen in his spleen/liver/blood and they suspect stomach but they stopped before that as they wanted to leave enough insurance money to cover the treatment. He’s coping well and so far he’s had terrible diarrhoea (but that was the pain killers we now know), and other than that, week 3 after the Iv he’s a bit sleepier and unsettled. Quality of life is still good so we’re cherishing every day and staying away from Google.

I hope you get better news but if chemo is an option, with such a young dog it’s worth a try of you can.

Oh @runningaway90, here, have another handhold from me. My pup had an awful gastrointestinal infection in May and I almost googled myself crazy until we've found a competent vet who diagnosed him correctly and treated him. He was also on hypoallergenic food, but it turned out (after many vet visits, injections and unnecessary meds) that yes, he is allergic to some proteins, but it were his reactions to binders and preservatives that were much worse and damaged his gastrointestinal tract so much that he could tolerate almost nothing.

So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, and please stay calm, your dog needs you.

Good morning @runningaway90 , how are things going?

runningaway90 · 02/11/2024 11:23

@CarrieMoonbeams hello, she's not had a great week health-wise but we got the results on Thursday and no evidence of cancer so that was a huge relief! They have eliminated pretty much everything else so they think it is just a bad case of IBD. She will be starting steroids and antibiotics next week to hopefully get on top of things once she has healed from the op. Thank you for asking!

Oh my goodness @runningaway90 that is just the best news, I'm so happy for you and your lovely girl!

Obviously I know it'll be a wee while before she's feeling much better, but what a relief in the meantime 🤗🐾
