Not much more to say really - just have a cheque to pay in and a 4 month old puppy who would benefit from a visit to town.

Are most banks dog friendly?

I don’t know but I’ve never seen a dog in a bank. Best ring up and ask first.

wendywoopywoo222 · 10/10/2024 14:26

Yes it's fine. I've been in two with mine this morning.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 10/10/2024 14:27

According to google it’s discretionary and the branch manager decides

wulves · 10/10/2024 14:29

Wow I would have assumed it was a flat no unless a guide dog etc.

TiredyMcTiredson · 10/10/2024 14:29

No, I don't think you should.

TheStroppyFeminist · 10/10/2024 14:30

Dogs seem to be allowed everywhere these days so I'd do it.

TheStroppyFeminist · 10/10/2024 14:30

you can mostly bank cheques by scanning them using your bank app though so do that and go for a nice walk!

scam321 · 10/10/2024 14:31

How big is your puppy - would it fit in an (appropriate) bag? IME small dogs in bags are usually more welcome than big ones on leads.

TheFlis · 10/10/2024 14:33

Metro Bank give out free dog biscuits!

LittleGreenDragons · 10/10/2024 14:33

A 4 month isn't housetrained so no don't take it in.

Most banks allow you to add cheques via their app if you have one. My DD just screenshots the cheque and uploads it.

smallsilvercloud · 10/10/2024 14:33

Avoid if it's got carpets, can you guarantee it won't need to wee or poo and hopefully you'd be prepared to clean up, not the staff

WallaceinAnderland · 10/10/2024 14:36

You can pay cheques in at the cash machine if they have one.

Iheartmysmart · 10/10/2024 14:36

It’s been many years since I had a pup, but that’s a really important age for new experiences and socialisation so I would take them. The worst that will happen is you’ll be asked to leave.

I took mine as many places as possible when he was small, the more people he met and new things he came across the better.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/10/2024 14:44

4 month old pup - I'd put it in a bag. If I'm just returning a book to the library I put my small dog under my arm. She never sets foot on the floor and everyone seems OK with it.

Just because no one has confronted you about it, doesn't mean everyone is ok about it.

They probably didn't even notice tbh. There's hardly anyone there.

Coconutter24 · 10/10/2024 14:57

I’d ask the bank first to save any embarrassment. If the bank was to say no dogs allowed, how would you cash the cheque?

Witchyandtwitchy · 10/10/2024 15:25

Yes why not? I always used to.
Things like that are good training. He can learn to sit calmly while you queue and make your transaction.
Wouldn’t be harming anyone, I’d be surprised if anyone noticed.

Cornflakelover · 10/10/2024 15:30

i took my dog into Barclays today with no problem and Santander last week with no problems

also been in 2 branches of TSB with no problems and a Lloyd’s bank as well

I don’t think any banks has refused my dog

coffeesaveslives · 10/10/2024 16:06

We have before - not planned, I have to say. I had to go in to do a name change for my bank card, and I was told off for leaving him outside with my mum Grin

Newpeep · 10/10/2024 17:45

What’s a bank?

I used to take my last dog in to mine as it was on the way home from a walk. I asked the first time and the manager said no problems as long as she didn’t want to make a deposit 🤣

MrsMitford3 · 10/10/2024 17:47

I always have-and they have biscuits and water and make a fuss-

Our post office is even better 🐶

LoveIsleOfWight · 10/10/2024 18:11

It's worth giving them a call and asking.

My bank isn't dog friendly but when we had a problem and needed to go in branch I called to explain I couldn't make the appointment as I had the dog at the vet that day they said to just bring her in, bank and vet both a 30min drive away.

Went to church today to watch dd do a reading through her school and there was an offlead dog Who sat through the service.

Danioyellow · 10/10/2024 18:17

I have to say I’m a bit surprised by these replies. I’ve never seen a dog in a bank so assumed it would be a flat no. I guess it comes down to whether the dog was being a nuisance and whether someone can be bothered to confront you

Just say it's a therapy / support dog they can't say anything loads of people are saying that in my husband shop although I think if there's food they can unless it's an assistance dog
