Can I take my dog to the bank?

Not much more to say really - just have a cheque to pay in and a 4 month old puppy who would benefit from a visit to town.

Are most banks dog friendly?

Well the pup is 17kg so popping in a bag or carrying him is not really feasible, and I had to take the cheque to actual staff as said pup had chewed one corner and I think the banking app would've rejected it.

The bank didn't let him in although someone held him outside for me (small branch, I was the only person there) as although she could have taken the cheque, I was also banking a bit of cash and she wasn't allowed to handle it.

@LoveIsleOfWight

My dog loved church, perhaps is was the biscuits that followed but he loved music too, especially the organ being played

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/10/2024 08:33

I wouldn't mind seeing a bank myself.
They have all closed where I live.

TroysMammy · 12/10/2024 08:36

They wouldn't be happy if he made a deposit.

Summatoruvva · 12/10/2024 08:38

This is ridiculous. “New experiences and socialisation”. It’s not a child.

Just say it's a therapy / support dog they can't say anything loads of people are saying that in my husband shop although I think if there's food they can unless it's an assistance dog

This is the sort of stupid comment that gives real service animals a bad name and makes life difficult for people with real disabilities.

Don't say this at all. Be honest.

whiteroseredrose · 12/10/2024 08:57

I used to work in a bank and then a building society and dogs were aloud in both.

whiteroseredrose · 12/10/2024 08:57

*allowed

whiteroseredrose · 12/10/2024 08:58

In fact there was a dog water bowl in the bank and we had treats behind the counter

WillowTit · 12/10/2024 08:59

yes pretty sure - there is no food so no problem

WillowTit · 12/10/2024 09:00

they wouldnt let her in?
that is strange, i guess you asked? perhaps that was why

sandgrown · 12/10/2024 09:01

Why would you take it to a bank ? Not a great environment for a dog

WillowTit · 12/10/2024 09:03

nothing wrong with taking a dog to a bank, or a post office, or a charity shop, even a greengrocers, keep them close to you

WillowTit · 12/10/2024 09:05

i tied my dog up outside the library, 20 years ago and she slipped her lead and came running in! the librarian said dogs arent allowed in the library Grin

Ligglepiggle · 12/10/2024 09:06

I sadly work in a dog friendly bank. We have a couple of staff who are scared of dogs and have had a dog bite another customer before. We have fed back several times but no one is interested. We have also had them wee on the carpet more than once

NuffSaidSam · 12/10/2024 09:09

I don't think you should take your dog to the bank. It's not really necessary and it causes problems for people who are allergic/sacred of dogs.

I'm glad your bank refused.

FrenchandSaunders · 12/10/2024 09:12

I’m a dog lover but I do think the trend of allowing them everywhere as got a bit out of hand.

I was in a very smart restaurant for lunch the other week and a couple walked in with two large dogs. They sat under the table next to us and were no bother but if my DD had been with me I would have had to leave. She’s very allergic.

Not the place for dogs.

I personally don't I leave my dog home and walk with him elsewhere but that's what people say in my husband's shop it's the equality act, better than leaving your dog outside if you have no option. There was a dog killed left tied up outside our local co op by another dog, people like you are just aggressive and rude think about that, there are reasons people don't want to or can't leave their dog and other than assistance there are service dogs and comfort dogs now.

Wells37 · 12/10/2024 09:47

I have a dog and love dogs but seriously there's no need to take the dog to the bank!
Dog friendly cafe maybe but seriously dog don't need to go everywhere

Wells37 · 12/10/2024 09:49

If they are a puppy you should be getting them use to be left at home happily for short periods. It's important they settle at home for an hour on their own

I'm sorry about the dog that was attacked - by another badly trained dog - and it's that lack of training which is why all dogs shouldn't be allowed in public places.

And don't sit there and quote the Equality Act unless you know the content. Assistance dogs are for disabled people. Therapy animals don't count. Apart from that there was no mention of disability in the OP

I used to be within walking distance of town and the dog went everywhere with me. He would wait outside, then shop staff started to spot him and said to bring him in. The bank may well let him in with you but I'd ask first.

saltysandysea · 13/10/2024 16:55

You maybe able to pay a cheque in using your banking app on your phone. No need of a trip to town at all.

Sethera · 13/10/2024 17:11

Step one in this enterprise is to find a bank branch that's still open.

Many don’t have the app and never want to have it!
