Moving on from the puppy survival thread, this is for anyone with a hormonal teenager 🤪

Brodie is just over 7 months now, and is a fun loving pup who is (mostly) a pleasure to be around. My main issue is still walking him which can either be almost a pleasure, or like having a Tasmanian Devil doing breast stroke and bunny hopping down the road 😡. There seems to be no reason for which dog gets attached to the end of the lead, but at least it shows he can do it if he's in the mood!

We've also had our first proper tummy upset this week 🤢 no doubt due to some rubbish he picked up and swallowed before I spotted it. Thankfully it seems to have passed now.

Well, I was wrong. It's snowing heavily here.
Brie has just been outside and was mesmerised by the big flakes - she stood, gazing up, then looked down and couldn't understand why they disappeared as soon as they hit the wet path... After that she wandered about the garden, jumping up to catch falling snowflakes. So cute 🤗

Bupster · 18/11/2024 20:18

@PyreneanAubrie just nipping in to say I've JUST discovered New Forest and keep buying three of everything 😄

I have an increasingly elderly Didrikson's Barbour-without-the-wax jacket, and a long padded North Face thing that was given to me and yes, does make me look like a pregnant caterpillar, but a warm one so I don't care. But the giant fleeces from New Forest are so wonderfully warm, I went out to scrape the ice off the car this morning without a coat.

I've got ankle length Muck Boots - I do have longer wellies but they're a pain in the arse getting on and off, and I have lovely warm walking boots but the little bollox eats the shoelaces and I do not have the patience first thing in the morning or last thing at night, so it's two pairs of woolly socks instead (not least as most of my socks have puppy-tooth-sized holes).

Also just for everyone's entertainment, I picked him up early tonight as I was exhausted and ill, we got home, and he stole the front door keys. Thankfully INSIDE the house or he would absolutely have been a Lancashire hotpot.

Only sleet forecast for us tonight too. Boo hiss, I was looking forward to his reaction to snow.

YorkshireFelix · 18/11/2024 20:30

@PyreneanAubrie that is precious! It's only just started lightly here and Vinny noticed it under a street lamp on our evening walk and was jumping up chomping the air.

@Bupster the house keys 😩 I barely ever wear my walking boots for the same reason, and if I do I have to stand on the stairs behind the baby gate to put them on otherwise it's impossible. I'll look up those fleeces as they sound heavenly.

Bupster · 18/11/2024 20:40

@YorkshireFelix I've just gone to check and they're by Didriksons but New Forest sell them. They are WONDERFUL. Honestly I'm an absolute wuss with the cold.

PyreneanAubrie · 18/11/2024 20:51

Sorry you're feeling poorly @Bupster .
New Forest do indeed have some very tempting stuff! Too much, in fact - I'm always spoilt for choice when I mooch on their site. House of Bruar even more so, but I don't quite have the budget for most of it so I just window shop.
Keep warm and feel better soon x

@YorkshireFelix Awww, Vinny's first snow too ❤It's so cute when they first look up and see the snowflakes and their eyes go all big.

Brie's just been in the garden eating snow off the lawn. I made a couple of very pathetic snowballs to chuck at her and she ate those too 😆 I really hope we get some deep snow days at some point during this coming winter.

Max is a cutie! Where abouts are you? It seems a bit wet here so not really settling yet.

We've got the fire on for the first time this season and it's so cosy. We can't keep the logs inside though because Vinny is going mad over them!

lookwhatyoumademedoo · 18/11/2024 21:03

we're in south yorkshire. started at about 6pm ❄️ i love snow !!
ahh i can imagine @YorkshireFelix ! we've a couple of small tree stumps in the garden and he's a nightmare for getting bits off and shredding it!!!

brushingboots · 18/11/2024 21:13

@Bupster I am amazed you have ice given how far away from here you're not! It isn't warm here by any measure but it definitely wasn't cold enough this morning for ice.

I was freezing on the walk this evening but kitted out in my new running reflective/flashing sash thingy so at least I was visibly frozen. Had to get the snood out for the first time this season.

Also now off to explore these fleeces of which you all speak as I am a fleece magnet (or magnate, increasingly) and will buy any good one recommended. Not clear how I haven't heard of these before but about to put that right!

brushingboots · 18/11/2024 21:16

@lookwhatyoumademedoo Ahh you're not too far from loads of us! Am amazed at how much snow you've got considering it's just wet and cold here.

Indeed @Bupster and I were saying on our walk the other week that round about where you are ish is the midpoint for most of us should we have the promised Christmas puppy party.

YorkshireFelix · 18/11/2024 21:24

It's really coming down here now. Vinny living his best cosy life!

Max would be in heaven to meet so many pups to play with!
i'll be wearing my fleece under my coat tomorrow!! its been bitter here today! need to find out my gloves too!!
ahh @YorkshireFelix vinny definitely looks cosy there !!

Bupster · 18/11/2024 21:28

It's snowing! Took himself up to the dog park for a late night poo, which he flat out refused, so I'll be up at 3am, but he redeemed himself with 15 minutes of snowy zoomies (the first five minutes were utterly joyful, before I turned blue). Really annoyed I forgot my phone, but I don't think I'll ever forget it 😍

Obviously the little sod had away with my slippers the second we got in.

YorkshireFelix · 18/11/2024 21:32

@Bupster ahhh amazing. I hope we got snowy zoomies tomorrow!

tizwozliz · 18/11/2024 21:46

We've had 3 am poos the past couple of nights and older one hasn't been this evening so no doubt will want to go again. I threw some snowballs in the garden in the hope that might stimulate some movement but just ended up with two hyped up dogs instead!

She definitely looks like she belongs in the snow!

brushingboots · 18/11/2024 23:17

I stand corrected! Just got up to take pupsy out for her bedtime wee and ta-dah, it's all snowed over and snowing. Am most surprised as it was just rain two hours ago.

Picture of my messy gardening table for snow scale. My poor verbenas have had a fright and have flopped right over – I hope they recover, and am now wishing I’d covered the pots with straw/fleece but it’s too late now.

The trouble with having a black dog is that they don’t photograph well but pupsy got extraordinary snow zooms and it was just gorgeous to see! Bit slippy so she was skidding around but she was chuffed to bits.

@PyreneanAubrie oh my goodness, look at her! I agree, weirdly poodley from that angle.

She kind of hasn't grown into her coat (skin) yet and it all droops forward when she looks down, hence looking like she's wearing a Cossack hat 😆

Goodness knows what size she'll end up being 😨

thewalrus · 19/11/2024 07:06

Gorgeous snow pics!! You are all so lucky - it's just rainy and miserable here. Though I definitely need to revolutionise our loose lead walking before we have any ice, so perhaps a good thing!!

I'm amazed how much snow you have (and rather envious)!
