Moving on from the puppy survival thread, this is for anyone with a hormonal teenager 🤪

Brodie is just over 7 months now, and is a fun loving pup who is (mostly) a pleasure to be around. My main issue is still walking him which can either be almost a pleasure, or like having a Tasmanian Devil doing breast stroke and bunny hopping down the road 😡. There seems to be no reason for which dog gets attached to the end of the lead, but at least it shows he can do it if he's in the mood!

We've also had our first proper tummy upset this week 🤢 no doubt due to some rubbish he picked up and swallowed before I spotted it. Thankfully it seems to have passed now.

@PyreneanAubrie If it's any consolation I would happily trade B for ANYTHING at the moment! I've just had walk from hell with him, I'm actually so cross with him I've left him downstairs and got out of the way. Not mature or helpful I know, but I can't even look at him. He'll be waggy and loving and gorgeous, when 15 minutes ago he was a vile creature acting like he'd lost his marbles.
Deep breath and onwards...

Aah, that is very odd, because I've been cross too. Wy do they have these days? Is it the weather? It is quite blustery here.

Brie went loopy for a motorbike when we were on our morning walk, and tried to take off after it at ninety miles an hour with me in tow 😨

Now she just seems to be in a cranky mood (I hope it's not PMD PMS 😱)she had a mega barky strop when I was doing her kibble for lunch and I actually walked out and shut the kitchen door, which I never normally do 😧She isn't usually so shouty. Needless to say, when her "Daddy" gets home she'll be a smiling little angel 🙄

I hope Brodie can redeem himself and your next walk will be blissful...

BrodiePup · 01/10/2024 16:26

@PyreneanAubrie How strange, us both having to close a door on them...at least we're in it together 🙂
I don't think the weather is helping us or them to be fair.
It's sooo annoying when they're good for their Dads, my husband has had two almost (he says) perfect walks with him, and is wondering why we've booked the training session. I'm glad it proves that B can do it, but makes me feel a complete failure. It doesn't help that I'm quite small and have arthritis in my shoulders, so every jolt goes right through me.
I guess it's just a bad day.

@BrodiePup We're twins!
Brie is good for Dad, a sod for me and takes advantage at every turn.
I'm quite a little thing too and have Fibromyalgia so some days are pain days but others not...
Brodie & Brie sound perfectly matched 😆

Ah well, tomorrow is another day and the forecast looks more promising 😊

BrodiePup · 01/10/2024 16:55

@PyreneanAubrie B is being super affectionate now, he knows I'm cross but the poor little thing won't have a clue why, so of course I feel awful.

If Brie and Brodie got together they'd make interesting pups 🤣

Tomorrow is indeed another day...

There is an adult dog ( same breed as Aubrie) @PyreneanAubrie near me.
He/she is used as a guard dog to protect the owners pigeons!!!!
I call it the pigeon protector 🤣🤣

CaptainBeanThief · 01/10/2024 17:48

@BrodiePup
How are you doing with annoying adolescent dickhead Brodie 🤣
I was hoping you'd have a little longer before the full blown wanky stage happened.
Males are far worse than bitches I wish I got one 🤣🤣

Doesn't surprise me, they'll guard whatever you give 'em.
The Pigeon Protector has a good 'ring' to it 😆😂😜

Somewhere there is probably The Goldfish Guardian... but Brie will be The Cat Chaperone 😁

Ah well, off for a walk. Wish me luck...🙄

CaptainBeanThief · 01/10/2024 18:00

Oh @BrodiePup you can piss off
If anyone is making babies with Aubrie, it's going to be Milo 🤣🤣🤣

Hi 👋 I recognise a few names from the puppy survival thread!

We've had Maggie a year now, she's 14 months old. As a rule she's a lovely dog but definitely in the adolescent phase. So far we've had:

  • ripped my coat to pieces
  • caught a pigeon then didn't know what to do with it so ran around with it in her mouth, flapping
  • obsessed with any fox poo, dead animal or generally minging filthy stuff
  • barking
  • deaf ears to any discipline
  • pulling terribly on lead for the first 10 minutes of any walk
  • steals washing of the dryers

And her most annoying new habit- knocks on the door to come back in, then when the door is open, legs it off around the garden. Does this maybe 10 times in a row sometimes. Eventually will only come inside for a biscuit.

Here's hoping this phase passes relatively quickly

@PyreneanAubrie

I'll give you both a shout when she comes in heat then, but of course the boy has to host the girl so whichever of you is nearer to West Pennine Moors might be the winner cos our clapped out Skoda won't make it very far these days 🙄...

Gawd, can you imagine 10 mini Brie x Milo or Brie x Brodie 😨PMD size with Working Spaniel energy...😱

What do we call it? A Cockernean? Pyrecock?

CaptainBeanThief · 01/10/2024 18:31

It's ok I have a 73 plate I can travel whatever distance 🤣🤣🤣
Can I have first dibs?
I'm only joking
Definitely pryecock it has a better ring to it.

@thenewaveragebear1983
Hi 👋
Oh the 14 month mark... Prime time for max wanky age. Any obedience is gone for abit so hang on there, mind you, we are not far ahead.
Milo loves eating cat shit he's disgusting 🤮

With the knock a door run away she knows she's annoying you, just ignore her, she will give up🤣

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/10/2024 18:42

@CaptainBeanThief maggies always eaten cat poop, we have 3 so the garden is like an all you can eat buffet. I asked the vet who just sorta shrugged and said 'well it's meaty and delicious 🤷‍♀️' hmmmm

The knock door run is such a fun game except when I close the door she starts jumping at the glass. I'm worried her little twiglet legs will snap. Or she goes off into the garden to dig

I forgot to mention the digging in my original moan. Dreading the wet weather softening the ground up!

One thing I will recommend, we had a plumber fit an outside warm tap to our kitchen wall on our patio which is so so so helpful, we tether her up and can shampoo her off after walks or digging. It was £150 well spent

CaptainBeanThief · 01/10/2024 18:51

@thenewaveragebear1983
Meaty cos it's full of threadworms 🤣🤮
Oh that sounds great, what area? If you don't mind me asking? Milo loves making a beeline for the most dirtiest puddles and mud he can find, he's a disgusting dog ha ha ha.
I do love him, really.
My garden has already started to soften up and he gets muddy even after 5 seconds. He loves a nice warm shower though and rolls over and takes it in his stride. Only because I had to throw him in it from the day he had his first walk ( I've always let my pups off lead from their first walk, recall training and all that)
Milo once ran off at FOUR months, when he decided to come back he jumped over a wall ( into a waste water works) thinking it was grass, I had to fish him out, I was mortified.
He's hardy - still stupid.
😬😬

BarbedButterfly · 01/10/2024 18:52

We have a 9 month old working cocker spaniel. He is pretty good still to be honest but has regressed with toilet training. Now he won't wait at all, when he needs to go he goes. No health problems, he is just being a pain I think. Back to taking him out every two hours.

He did have a bit of resource guarding at one point but is getting a lot better now we've been working with him on swap. Proper velcro dog so his recall is a bit dodgy sometimes but if we tell him bye and start walking he is back like a shot.

He is currently enjoying long walks with my partner in the forest as we're in an air b and b. But God, please let him be toilet trained again soon.

CaptainBeanThief · 01/10/2024 18:55

@BarbedButterfly
Sounds like the regressed toilet training may be the start of adolescence, is he crate trained at all? I would start using this during the day to get into a bladder routine - soon as hes been let out, he goes straight outside.

It's so funny - we say bye to Milo and he comes back. Tbh his recall is much better - see up thread about my water work story 🤣

CaptainBeanThief · 01/10/2024 18:58

My little cling on who looks like a well behaved, obedient dog but he's a naughty little mischievous shit head 😜💖

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/10/2024 19:26

@CaptainBeanThief we're Worcester/warwickshire border.

PyreneanAubrie · 01/10/2024 19:34

We've had a cat shit eater, he used to shove his head in the swing door on the litter tray and then we'd have a cat hurtle out squirting wee all over the hallway.

This puppy/adolescent creature just eats gravel and soil because we've put the litter tray out of her reach. Ha!

@thenewaveragebear1983 Lovely to have Maggie here; Girl Power an all that 😉Oh a girl that digs. We've had three digging obsessed females but our boys never dug. Brie digs and eats soil plus the odd leatherjacket grub for added protein 😝

@CaptainBeanThief Will our Pyrecocks be a multi purpose dog do you think? Do they flush out the gamebirds then protect them from harm..? I'm not sure The Spaniel Men would approve...🤔

CaptainBeanThief · 01/10/2024 19:40

I wonder if the prynecocks would have beautiful feathers like their cousins, the peacock 🦚
We could become backyard breeders,
No no that's a joke,
Yeah they can flush out whatever we want and then guard them like the pigeons ha ha ha

brushingboots · 01/10/2024 21:00

Hahah I am chuckling imagining the Spaniel Men (tm) encountering a Pryecock, @CaptainBeanThief @PyreneanAubrie. Today was too wet even for my range of Barbours and I actually had to wear a proper rain coat. Still got drowned. Twice.

@thenewaveragebear1983 hello to Maggie! We also have a lady digger-dog here but, touch wood, she seems to forgotten about it again, now aged 16 months. Weirdly I find it comes in phases.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/10/2024 21:02

This was Her efforts a few days ago - that hole is about 2 foot deep and it's clay soil

Oh gosh - that's a pretty impressive crater! Our Brie is a total amateur compared to Maggie 😨

PyreneanAubrie · 01/10/2024 21:13

@brushingboots @CaptainBeanThief

Oh no! I had a green wax jacket and green wellies on today...!!! Help!!! 😰I'm turning into one of them and I don't even have my Pyrecock yet...😧

brushingboots · 01/10/2024 21:18

@PyreneanAubrie that's my permanent uniform too – they might (temporarily) take our spirit but never our coats! Hahaha
