Cruciate ligament problem

Desperately looking for a vet practice to carry out a cruciate ligament surgery costing less than 3.5K. Has anyone had this done lately at a more affordable price?

It's 100% dependent on dog size/weight and how serious the tear is. There are different procedures - and vets chose them based on the type of injury sustained.

But £3.5K sounds about right, IME for this. If you can't afford to pay, some practices still do payment plans - but this is becoming less common due to poor levels of repayment.

3.5k sounds cheap to me - a friends dog recently had it done and it was more like 6k once all the follow ups and checks were paid for.

It depends how big the dog is and exactly which surgery is being done ( there are several).
For a TPLO on a large breed dog £3.5K is cheap.

Our terrier had both CL's done 6&7 years ago, cost back then was £3.5k (each) so yours sounds like a bargain!

Recovery is the most important thing.
The veterinary surgeon who did the ops had obviously seen it too many times where people let the dog walk/run shortly after the op (as soon as the dog felt better) and the op failed.
We kept our boy as still & quiet as possible, even carrying him into the garden for the loo. Pleased to say he made a perfect recovery.

Thanks all. Short story - I had insurance for 9 years but allowed myself to be bullied into stopping it. I thought as much as regards the costs. Just desperately hoping for a bit less on my cc.

I feel your pain op. I cancelled my pet insurance having decided that the monthly premiums for 3 dogs and 2 cats were ridiculous. One dog did his cruciate ligament a few months later 🙄. But that was about £3.5k around 6 years ago. So I don't think you'll get it cheaper now.

I don't think you'll find it much cheaper than that to be honest, it's a complex operation and has a lot of recovery time.

Are you anywhere near an Animal Trust vets?
