Just had to take my old boy to the vets for the last time. He had some sort of seizure and was very unsteady on his legs and his vision seemed to go (was in decline already)
He was 18 but I feel so guilty. Going to miss him terribly 😔

I'm so sorry, so sad.

I'm so sorry. I know right now it's not much help but you really did do the best thing for him in the end. Flowers

We lost one of our boys a few weeks ago and it's still hard. DH admitted to me yesterday that he hates coming home from work right now because he misses the barks from when our dog heard the car door and the garden gate. Our other two boys don't bark like he did. You miss even the annoying things they did, but as I said to DH, while it hurts, we still had many many years with him and he had an amazing life with us and that's all we can ask for. The same goes for you OP, he must have had a wonderful 18 years with you.

I'm paraphrasing something from a recent funeral that I was at, but a heart that hurts right now is a heart that has been full of love. Sending you some gentle unMNetty hugs. FlowersFlowersFlowers

@Tarkan well, this made me cry! Thank you for your kind words, it means a lot. And sorry to hear about your doggy too, they break our hearts but gave so much

Ooh I’m so sorry. I know how you feel. The pain is utterly unbearable. He said to say thank you for his happy and long life with you. What an age! Wow! x

18 years…that’s incredible, OP. He must have been such a loved and treasured family member and had such a beautiful life.

You did the right thing and it will, one day, get better. It takes time and 18 years is a lot of grief to process - be kind to yourself and try to remember the good times (even when he stole socks or dug holes) you had together. ❤He sounds like he was immeasurably lucky to have found a family in you.

I completely empathise with you. I lost my beautiful girl 3.5 weeks ago and we are all utterly broken. The house is not the same.

I now have her ashes and the first thing I do at morning and before I go to bed is kiss the pot and tell her we love her. It's insane but is helping me grieve.

Sending you much love.

Lots of love to you x it's awful x

I'm so very sorry. It's a pain like no other - my heart goes out to you, it truly does. What a long life he had, though. He must have been very dearly loved and looked after to make it to 18.

Thank you all, got through the day and hoping it gets easier and the happy memories outweigh the tough times.

You're so right there.

Just keep taking one day at a time, the happy memories will be the main thing in time but I know how hard it is. You're doing so well. Hugs. FlowersFlowers
