Dog acting strange after anaesthetic

My 12 year old Sheltie had surgery today to remove a suspected melanoma from her gum, had her teeth cleaned and one extraction. She keeps standing and staring at me or into space and does not seem to want to go into her bed. She looks really tired but fighting to stay awake.

Still doped up bless them.

I feel like I should be doing something to help but cannot think of anything!

Have you tried picking her up and giving her a cuddle.

FiveShelties · 23/09/2024 11:30

Yes, I tried that and sat on the floor with her but she just wanted to stand up and stare - it is quite disconcerting. Perhaps she is thinking that last time she fell asleep someone pulled a tooth and cut a growth out😀

How's your dog now?

FiveShelties · 23/09/2024 22:23

@vodkaredbullgirl thank you so much for asking, she is absolutely fine. Has had her breakfast, which lasted the usual 11.2 seconds and her medication.

Just have to wait for the report on the X-ray which showed her heart appears quite large, so may need medication and for the report on the growth, hoping it is not malignant.

And, of course, I need to recover from the vet bill😁
