Whippet mystery yelping

My lovely 8 year old whippet has never had any health problems, I think he’s been to the vet for vaccinations and an infected paw and that’s it.

he’s been randomly yelping the last few days, seem to be eating fine and walking fine. I’ve just laid him on the floor and checked him all over and can’t see any problems - no lumps, wounds, smells or particular places that seem tender. Checked his mouth too and he wasn’t bothered.

I’ll book the vets on Monday I think but any ideas?

Have you checked right inside the paws deep between the pads? Our grey used to do the scream of death if there was something in there. Maybe there is something that is intermittently digging in?

I was going to say grass seed or something in his pads - have you properly manipulated all his toes?

Thanks I’ll go back and have a good look

My beagle once sprained a toe 🙄

Yelped very occasionally and limped for a few seconds - no obvious pain and no grass seeds. Vet manipulated all his toes and he screamed when she moved one of them - painkillers and rest and he was fine!

Yes, our lurcher broke a toe cornering too fast 🙄

When’s he doing it? That might help you narrow it down a bit?

I realise btw that that makes it sound like you’d not tried to work it out at all 🤣

I more meant, if you list it down it might jump out at you a bit more, or give someone else an idea
