Am I too neurotic?

Dog had his jabs on Thursday

He's fairly new to me - as is dog ownership

The vet had to restart the course as it's been more than 12 months since last jab

That evening he was very lethargic, which I understand now is quite normal (at the time I was freaking out though lol) He ate all his tea however, poo and wee as normal

Friday - all fine, quiet walks. Friday evening gave a dose of metacam for arthritis (administered as and when required at vet advice) as planned to do slightly longer walks at the weekend- which didn't happen anyway (so just the one dose)

Yesterday he was "off", nothing specific, wanted to walk and play, ate normal, poop and wee normal- just ... quieter than normal

This morning really lethargic, sick twice (although did normal poo), and shivering.

Am waiting for a call back from the vets right now... but slightly freaking out sat at work (watching him sleep on the dog cam) breaking my heart

Am I over worrying? He's a special boy ❤️ (as they all are)

It can be normal but best to check with vets, my boy is always a bit off a couple days after his jabs and after lots of cuddles and a few days bland diet he’s back to normal x

PLEASE GET HIM TO THE VET.

I am not trying to scare you but our previous Pyrenean died from a reaction to Nobivac 4. He was only 7 years old, a big robust dog and in perfect health. It was years since his previous booster so we restarted a vaccine course after seeing rats in the area and panicking about Lepto.

In the days after the vaccine he was lethargic, vomiting, abnormally subdued. Our vets kept insisting he was fine and we kept taking him back because we knew something was wrong. After about 10 days we convinced the vets something was amiss, they kept him in, gave him treatments including chemotherapy but it was too late. He died from Thrombocytopenia and Haemolytic Anaemia and because it was covid lockdown we were not able to be with him. It broke our hearts.

Please get your dog thoroughly checked.

Hopefully your boy will be fine.

Please update as we'll be thinking about you. You can PM me if you want.

Often it’s a reaction to the stress rather than the vaccine but if you are concerned check.

I felt like utter crap after all my Covid vaccines.

SpanielintheWorks · 19/08/2024 11:37

Has he been OK with Metacam previously, as some dogs can react to that by vomiting?

sunsetsandboardwalks · 19/08/2024 11:53

That's not a normal reaction and I would 100% want him to be checked over if he was mine.

Justmemyselfandi999 · 19/08/2024 12:02

Highly likely a reaction to the Lepto element of the jab, please urgently get to the vets, it can be fatal.
