They're currently on Millies Wolfheart dry but to get them to eat it I have to add warm water and a topper.

I'd rather just move to wet food which they gonwild over.

But something chicken free.

Our dog is on Years and it's the only dog food he has continued to eat for longer than a fortnight (and we have tried a lot of things. Raw, butternut box, a load of kibbles, other wet food such as Forthglade etc). It is not a cheap brand but I prefer paying knowing that I am not going to be throwing 2/3 of it away.

They do a variety of meals - we also do no chicken.

EdithStourton · 18/08/2024 12:18

I use Butcher's as a topper/mixer to get our fussy bugger to eat. The other one gets a share too, so we get through two tins a day, which costs about £15/week for two medium-sized dogs. We keep the cost down a bit by swapping out the tinned for table scraps, oil from canned fish (we eat the fish, they get the oil poured over their kibble), etc.

Natural Instinct raw food is great. Our dog was really fussy and wouldn’t eat her kibble unless she was really hungry but she wolfs the Natural Instinct raw food.

I know but I have 3 dogs which is why they're on kibble as it's cheaper but they don't enjoy it.

Am trying to find a middle ground.

It's frustrating with the chicken intolerance though. Every tin labeled 'beef/lamb' etc the main ingredient is always chicken!

Sorry I can't do raw. Have tried it and I just can't and I don't have the freezer space.

Butchers are the ones that I was just complaining about, they say beef but it's 42% chicken!

I've just looked at 'years' and it would be over £200 a month for 2 pugs and a chihuahua! I just can't afford that :(

How big are your dogs? Feeding completely wet might be £££

We feed kibble with some forthglade 90
% as a topper most days (only one is fussy but easiest to feed them the same). You can get just lamb and just beef in that range. It's not a complete food however so not suitable if you want just wet food.

GhibliCat · 18/08/2024 12:40

2 x 10kg pugs and a 2.5kg chihuahua

Try scrumbles. Not expensive and decent ingredients.

Dearg · 18/08/2024 12:43

Chappie? It is mainly fish although I see it has 4 % chicken. My vet suggested it for sensitive tums, as the ID they stock is chicken rich .
It comes wet or dry and you can mix them.
My dog loved it. But he’s a lab so not the most discerning.

lovemycbf · 18/08/2024 12:44

Look on zooplus at Rocco and Rinti

Swissrollover · 18/08/2024 12:54

I was also going to say Rocco. It is beef based with lots of varieties. (There is a chicken based version too.) It is on Zooplus, but also on their discount site, Bitiba.

I used this website to help filter out what I wanted. Personally, I wanted a British or at least a European brand, but also something I could easily buy in local shops. What kibble do you feed, or just wet?

You'll laugh because it's got a bad rep for not being 'good' but I always used Chappie original wet tins. Low fat and fish based. I topped it with 'good quality' kibble. My dog lived to 17 so it can't be that bad! I used to get it off zooplus in bulk.

OnlyFrench · 18/08/2024 13:15

Forthglade, and they do loads of discounts

One of mine is on Chappie. Absolutely nothing else worked for him. He thrives on it.

GhibliCat · 18/08/2024 13:42

I can't do chappie as it's all chicken :(

I know it's frowned upon ours has a topper of pedigree chum pouches mostly kibble but with half a pouch for flavour so he eats it. In past dogs we found wet food gave them horrible wind and sloppy poo

Mrsjayy · 18/08/2024 13:51

My sister feeds her elderly dog Forthglade it comes in different flavours.

Pyreneansylvie · 18/08/2024 13:56

I'd actually recommend the Wainwright's trays from Pets at Home. We have our girl on the puppy ones to supplement her kibble. The meat content is high (70%), it comes in turkey and lamb as a single meat source (there's also a chicken variety), has carrot, sweet potato, seaweed, herbs, flax oil. No nasties. There is a grain free version but the one we use has brown rice in. Our pup loves it and it hasn't upset her bowels at all.

magicstar1 · 18/08/2024 14:10

My dog is allergic to chicken too and very fussy. She’s been on Butternut Box for months now and it’s great. There are plenty of options like lamb / beef / game / salmon, and they don’t contain any chicken.

if you want to try it I can send you a referral code so you get a discount (I’ll get a discount too).

My dog would have a sensitive stomach and was on daily probiotic for loose poos, but hasn’t needed it since we started this too.

Brighton2019 · 18/08/2024 14:16

Also recommend the 'all about dog food' as a great place to start.
Currently my dog is on Naturo wet food trays - £8 for 6 trays that last him 12 days (half a tray a day). Good rating on the above website and he loves it

Tel12 · 18/08/2024 14:25

I have a pug x and she's on Nature diet. I changed her from kibble as she had a few issues and she loves it. 1 carton is 3x meals and she's 9kg. Kibble she just left until she was really hungry. There's one she just loves, so excited, even through she has the same flavour every single time. I buy from Amazon, get a discount for a subscription.

They did have butternutbox a few years ago and did love it but it's £125 a month for them,

I might talk to DH about it and see what he says.

As that's £60 more than we pay now.
