Neighbour HATES my dog!

1000 replies

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 19:20

Hi everyone!

I’ve lived in my house for over 9 years now, have owned a poodle cross for 8 of those years. April last year I got a Cane Corso puppy, spoke to this certain neighbour informing her, gave her my number and told her if there was any problems with barking etc, especially if I’m not home, then go please let me know so I can resolve it but she has done nothing but cause me problems ever since.

Last year I was taking rubbish to the bins and the CC followed me out and was being fussed over by my neighbour on the other side of my house. 24 hours later the other neighbour put a computer typed letter through my letterbox stating the car park is not a place to walk a dog, it is illegal for her not to be on a lead and if she sees it happening again she is going to report me for having a out of control dog and her being a dangerous breed!! I sent her a text message explaining the law very basically for her and explaining under no circumstances will she be putting notes through my letterbox over something which could be dealt with by an adult conversation.

Well, since April this year she has made numerous reports to RSPCA claiming I’m neglecting her, abusing her and now a report to Social Services claiming I’m not only neglecting my CC, but she is a dangerous breed and I have a young child in my home!

I have absolutely had enough now!! My back door is normally open 24 hours as I have an enclosed garden but I’m petrified to allow the dog to be able to go in and out at her free will because of this neighbour, petrified I’m going to be approached by rspca/police when I’m out walking her ….

I just don’t know what to do now.

That would maliciousness then and you’d be rightly given a warning by police and if you didn’t stop you’d be going to court to be either fined or jailed

The sooner the police get involved, the better. Rather that than the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth after a horrible attack.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 20:59

I'd be happy with a muzzle. I don't like dogs being muzzled, but you'd assume a decent owner, if they were owning a dog like that for the right reasons might think again about owning another if they knew it had to be muzzled.

Have you actually said what you think OP should do about her problem?

pinkducky · 10/08/2024 21:00

@ilovegranny why would the police get involved with someone legally owning a large dog?

If someone is fearful of it, that is their problem.

Thanks, I just feel you've jumped on me quite a few times.

I'm actually not saying OP is a bad dog owner, I just feel she's made poor choices. I don't care who owns these kinds of dogs and why they own them... I just wish they didn't. I know my dog is under control whilst I'm out and I'm lucky enough that my back garden opens onto acres of dog walking space, so mostly it's only fellow dog owners we see and not many at that. However I'm constantly nervous every time we turn a corner in case one of these dogs are there as they are ALL off lead. Often another owner will pre warn me and luckily most dogs are your average breed. I'm actually more worried one will attack my dog than me... I just couldn't bear to see her get hurt or worse. I'd carry pepper spray if it was legal.

Edited

I could have made my point better so apologies for that.

All I'm saying is that just because a dog is cute and looks like big teddy bear it doesn't mean that nobody is scared or finds the dog threatening. I'm grateful for anybody who rescues animals in need and whether you like it or not the OP has rescued a CC and by all accounts is doing a good job. As dog owners all we do is be cautious and I personally judge the owner rather than the breed.

I think there is a lot of hysteria on this thread. People saying they would move house, phone the authorities every day etc. The statistics show that we are more likely to come to harm from men than large dogs. Are we advocating banning men or muzzling them? No. All we can do is be cautious.

ilovegranny · 10/08/2024 20:54

A large DANGEROUS dog. One I would live in fear of every time I opened my door. So yes, if that’s what it took.

Define dangerous?

No, I was answering a question from another poster.

Tbf there are plenty of men I'd happily see muzzled 🤣

I would be inclined to agree 🤫

CellophaneFlower · 10/08/2024 21:11

For me it comes down to the potential. I know all dogs can potentially bite but I mean the damage they can potentially cause. Cane corsos, as far as I'm aware, are in no way in the same league as XL bullies, those were purely bred to fight to the death. But they still have the power to kill a grown man and I just can't understand why anybody has any business owning one.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 21:14

Probably @ilovegranny is a version of OP's neighbour and feels much the same way.

Will keep disturbing all the available agencies until they are sick to death of the calls.

The neighbour will become their problem.

Alucard55 · 10/08/2024 21:15

Just to say I'm not advocating for "dangerous" dogs to be running free. I think we need strict legislation around breeding dogs, especially large powerful dogs. What human beings have done with the the breeding of XL type dogs is shocking. I think we need to remember that these dogs didn't ask to be inbred/bred to be aggressive. Add to that these dogs didn't ask for awful owners.

Whilst that is obviously true about dogs not asking to be bred, humans didn't ask to be living next door to a seriously potentially dangerous dog. We don't keep tamed tigers for the same reason we shouldn't keep dogs that have the ability to do such serious damage.
Anyone denying what this breed is capable of - and is in the news for acting on their innate desires to maul - are being deliberately antagonistic.

YoureNotFromBrighton · 10/08/2024 21:31

Also, I would have no problem with a mass cull of these breeds. We slaughter tens of thousands of other animals, I don't see what dangerous dogs get a pass. We'd actually SAVE animals (the ones that go into petfood) if we did away with a few dogs, and I'd be more than fine to start with bullies and CCs.

ilovegranny · 10/08/2024 22:14

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 18:49

I’d be scared too, and report you every single day until I could move house. Irresponsible and selfish.

After you'd done RSPCA, Police and Social Services who else would you be reporting to?

I guess I’d be defeated, and live in fear. So that’s ok then.

If someone is fearful of it, that is their problem.

So it would seem. As long as the dog is ok, that’s fine then.

I'm not denying what large powerful breeds are capable of. I'm showing some compassion for animals who should be treated better by human beings.

carchi · 10/08/2024 22:30

A cane corso dog being taken out in public and not muzzled is just plain irresponsible. Why can't you just use a muzzle because it's a good safety measure for everyone else in case the dog does get free for any reason. Don't say my dog would never attack anyone because you just don't know that and it's not fair to risk others especially with a dog that could easily cause great harm

@ilovegranny that’s not a normal reaction. Do you have a phobia of dogs?

I agree. A responsible dog owner should be cautious and take reasonable measures. I still think the hysteria on this thread is bonkers.

After they've phoned the local authorities every day!

dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime · 10/08/2024 22:43

@ilovegranny well yes, you would have to live in fear. Or you could get help and be rational?

Rhaenys · 10/08/2024 22:44

Alucard55 · 10/08/2024 22:36

After they've phoned the local authorities every day!

Like what do they think is going to happen to them? Do they think that the dog will somehow learn to unlock their front door and attack them?

I’m just trying to think if one of my neighbours got some something ridiculous like a tiger, there’s no way I’d move house because of it. Unless I went up to it myself, the chance of something happening to me is very very low. You’re far more likely to come to harm as a result of someone’s husband ffs. 🤦🏼‍♀️
