Neighbour HATES my dog!

1000 replies

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 19:20

Hi everyone!

I’ve lived in my house for over 9 years now, have owned a poodle cross for 8 of those years. April last year I got a Cane Corso puppy, spoke to this certain neighbour informing her, gave her my number and told her if there was any problems with barking etc, especially if I’m not home, then go please let me know so I can resolve it but she has done nothing but cause me problems ever since.

Last year I was taking rubbish to the bins and the CC followed me out and was being fussed over by my neighbour on the other side of my house. 24 hours later the other neighbour put a computer typed letter through my letterbox stating the car park is not a place to walk a dog, it is illegal for her not to be on a lead and if she sees it happening again she is going to report me for having a out of control dog and her being a dangerous breed!! I sent her a text message explaining the law very basically for her and explaining under no circumstances will she be putting notes through my letterbox over something which could be dealt with by an adult conversation.

Well, since April this year she has made numerous reports to RSPCA claiming I’m neglecting her, abusing her and now a report to Social Services claiming I’m not only neglecting my CC, but she is a dangerous breed and I have a young child in my home!

I have absolutely had enough now!! My back door is normally open 24 hours as I have an enclosed garden but I’m petrified to allow the dog to be able to go in and out at her free will because of this neighbour, petrified I’m going to be approached by rspca/police when I’m out walking her ….

I just don’t know what to do now.

It makes no difference anyway. Lead or no lead, you're not controlling that dog if it decides it wants to run at people.

Alucard55 · 09/08/2024 20:11

CellophaneFlower · 09/08/2024 19:04

Probably the fact she states it goes back on lead if she sees children or elderly people? Is that 'just in case'? It's doubtful a grown man would fare very well either.

I put my 5kg dog on lead if I see children, elderly people, other dogs on lead. It's called being respectful and reading the situation.

I can assure you my dog doesn't make anyone feel unsafe. It's the opposite, they all make a beeline for her as she looks like a giant teddy bear. She doesn't bark either.

That comes down to perception surely? You can't possibly know if your dog makes others feel unsafe?

Canecorsomummy · 09/08/2024 20:14

CellophaneFlower · 09/08/2024 20:09

Are you for real? So are you suggesting I keep my puppy who is under control, it's a struggle as I say if she's trying to chase my children, but I'm never letting her go, away from public places with zero socialisation, whilst you strut around with an animal that's been bred to bring down bears? Righto.

Your puppy is not under control is you struggle to hold her back when she is on leash. My CC does not pull in leash, under any circumstances

CC are a Sicily breed, there is no wild bears or lions in Sicily

Well the fact they are queuing to pet her and I've had cars stop to say how lovely she is, I really think most people aren't afraid of her?

It's unlikely those that are afraid would be queuing up to pet her though?

So you are unable to see why a member of the public, even one who doesn’t have a fear of dogs, maybe feel unsafe or concerned that you are finding it a struggle to contain your puppy, on a leash?

I get stopped most days walking my CC, I get stopped when I’m driving if she’s in the back with her head popped out the window doesn’t mean many others don’t have a fear of her

There are bears in Italy, which is where they were used to hunt.

OK I agree... just as many people will be scared of my dog as yours 🙄😂 If it makes you feel better.

My dog will never be on a banned list... yours almost certainly will be within a few years.

dawngreen · 09/08/2024 20:24

Get a grip people, I get some people are scared of dogs. But @RedPoster she made one mistake ages ago when her dog was a pup, she put her rubbish out, and her pup followed. She has a well secured back garden, and keeps her dog on a lead when going out. She is following the law regarding her dog. It is not her responsibility to right paranoid crazy people. And I don't care how many dog attacks lists you post. This dog has not done any thing! She is allowed to let her dog in her secured back yard.

You need to train your dog. Banned breed or not, no one likes an out of control dog. Do better.

I am talking about an incident that's happened a handful of times, my children are not generally with us on our walks. When it's happened people just say "wow, bet you've got muscles" and laugh. Probably as my dog doesn't look menacing or muscular. They also all know by her behaviour that she's a pup, despite her size. She's bouncy... not chomping at the bit.

You believe your dog doesn’t make others feel unsafe.

I completely understand she is a puppy, she’s still learning but a puppy being strong enough for you to hold back without a struggle, from wanting to chase and play with your children is not something just put down to her being a puppy to make it acceptable.

you need to start with training in a secure area, using a long lead, with what treats/praise she is lead by. Until she has completely mastered it in this surrounding then you don’t intentionally add possible risks etc, like other members of the public

She is in the process of being trained, she's a puppy. She didn't pop out with excellent recall unfortunately. Hence her being on a lead.

Again that's perception. I don't find Cane Corso's meanacing I think they are beautiful.

Yes and all sensible dog owners know this. It's a case of constantly training and reenforcing good behavior. Being vigilant and responsible. Much like the OP is doing.

LilBowWow · 09/08/2024 20:33

A puppy like the OPs dog was at 5 months? You’ve had the temerity to slate other dogs and their behaviour whilst simultaneously admitting you can’t handle yours. Madness.

My CC isn’t bulky and muscular. They do not bulk or become muscular until fully grown, anywhere between 18-24 months

if i witnessed it happening, I would label you or your dog, I wouldn’t be in fear of my own safety but I would tell my son to steer clear. Not because I’m worried your dog is aggressive but because your dog is a bounding puppy who has zero idea of the size of herself.

There will also be plenty of others that would label you and your dog tho! That is the reality

I do this... in my garden. I won't not socialise her until her recall is perfect, that wouldn't help anyone. She's strong, but I can control her and as I said, it's only my children she wants to run after, as they are her pack.

I cannot believe I'm justifying myself to someone who has got a young child and thought it was a good idea to get a cane corso with a dodgy upbringing. You couldn't make it up 😂 Nice deflection anyway.

I wish others would do the same, as honestly I get sick of all the kids coming over to pet her and like you say, she doesn't know her size so she could lean on 1 and knock them over. Thankfully though she knows to lay down as she knows that gets her more strokes 🙄
