Hi
I'd like to book a long weekend away sometime between now and the end of the year for me, my teen son and my sighthound.

I'm looking for a cottage/house/chalet type thing with a few home comforts somewhere on the south coast.

No further east than Portsmouth/Southsea, no further west than Plymouth up to Bideford/Ilfracombe.

Anyone have any recommendations?

What is your budget?

I stayed at one recently near Lyme Regis, but it was not cheap. Good secure garden though. https://boutique-retreats.co.uk/luxury-cottages-dorset/lyme-regis/the-beach-house-dorset-60.html#in-the-area

Tbh there are lots of options.

But I would 100% avoid anything to do with Sykes Cottages - they are notorious for poor hygiene standards, not returning deposits (claiming damage where there isn't any). WhichUK just did a review that said this about Sykes which (if you CBA to read) basically says, they're fine but if you have an issue during your stay then chances are they won't resolve it.

With more than 21,000 rentals, Sykes is one of the biggest UK cottage providers. Members tell us Sykes’ rentals are worthy of a five-star rating for quality and paid just £47 per person per night to stay - one of the cheapest in our survey. However, it came towards the bottom of our survey results. It’s possible that some members felt it didn’t address problems that arose. Of the 145 people who told us they had issues during their stay - and told Sykes about it - more than a third said they went unresolved.

Thanks. Budget is probably £2-300 for 2-3 nights. I'll avoid them!

That linked property is stunning but way out of my price range for just me and the dog sadly. Thanks though.
