Is it at night? We never left our puppy barking in the crate. We sprinkled some treats in there and put it by our bed. Then we slowly moved it further and further away until he was happy to sleep in the hall.

Don’t put the puppy in the crate. Crate training takes time. You need to start with the door open and making the crate a place where the pup is rewarded with treats for being calm in there. How old is pup?

Setyoufree · 13/07/2024 22:56

As pp above. I massively recommend easy peasy puppy squeezy book which explains really clearly how to crate train.

Wait until puppy's having a break in the barking to let them out though, otherwise you're teaching them to bark to get out

DarkForces · 13/07/2024 23:06

Let it out!

MadameMassiveSalad · 13/07/2024 23:06

It's my sister's puppy
He's staying in over
She days he just gets in and sleeps
He's not doing that
I don't want to ruin her training she's done

I went and sat with him and he licked my hand a bit and has stopped now

How old? Has it stayed with you before? You can’t leave a pup shut in a crate who is upset.

MadameMassiveSalad · 13/07/2024 23:16

He's settled now thank you.

It isn't supposed to be a punishment.. Dpuppy needs you not a locked bloody door....
How sad...

MadameMassiveSalad · 14/07/2024 06:40

Why so dramatic?

It's how he normally sleeps so doing as he's used to at home.
He was absolutely fine after 5 minutes and has slept through.
Very happy boy this morning.

Well done (and good boy)!

Our pup much prefers to sleep in her crate still at 8 months. It's currently backfiring as she has the Cone of Shame after an injury, and she can't fit in her crate wearing it. She has reluctantly agreed to sleep next to the crate for now, pressed sadly against the bars.

Apollo365 · 14/07/2024 06:47

Goodness me! It wasn’t her dog. Was probably just stressed as owner was missing, why are the replies so dramatic! Glad all was ok OP.

Aw bless her. Hope she's better soon 🐾
