Osteosarcoma

If a front ankle lump comes up, will it be hard or feel like fluid?

We have a vet appointment scheduled but I'm worried its osteosarcoma.

The other day, Friday, our dog, a mastiff, 6 in September, started yelping when getting up on his bed (its raised). There was no indication of where his pain was for a while, just an occasional yelp. When I felt all over there was no swelling or flinching or yelping.

Slowly, since yesterday swelling has appeared on his front left leg. It feels like fluid rather than hard. It's getting bigger (Its noticable today rather than a squinter like yesterday) and he's stopped getting up on chairs and his bed. His bed is now on the floor and we are waiting for his appointment.

Our old mastiff had a large lump on her shoulder appear out of nowhere on a Friday, was taken to the emergency vet on the Saturday and diagnosed with osteosarcoma on the Monday and they gave her 2 months. We amputed and gave her CBD/THC and she had 6 months until quality of life declined and we PTS.

But I didn't poke and prod her and I can't remember what it felt like.

Oh OP I'm so sorry. We had the same with our dog and it's heartbreaking. From memory it was quite solid when it appeared out of nowhere but over the following days (he lived 3 weeks 6 days after diagnosis/the day the lump appeared) the lump and his chest and leg became full of fluid as the tumor was stopping his natural filtration. It was so horrific to see and we just knew when it was time.

These are pictures of the lump at first and then after the swelling. I think this was his last day. 😭

😥I'm sorry, he was gorgeous.

I'm hoping this is just a sprain or something, his is localised around the ankle joint and feels like fluid.

Thank you 😭 he was simply the best dog.

I googled and the ankle is a common place. Descriptions of texture varied but fluid around a hard structure was most common. Have you managed to get an appointment. I hope it's nothing serious. He is young.

Just to update, the dogs leg sorted itself out, the swelling went down and he's not got any pain now so it was just a pull/sprain/he bashed it somehow.
