Almost 15 year old DDog off her food...

... since last night. No breakfast this morning, picked at a bit of chicken this afternoon. She's just recovered from a UTI but doesn't really seem to be consistency rallying. Sporadically bright but also very sleepy and drinking a lot of water. Off her food Wednesday but back on it Thurs-Fri. Refusing usual kibble but had been eating wet dog food until today.

Do I need to start preparing for the worst? I fear I do but I could be catastrophising... 😭

It's horrible as they get older and we think is this the final furlong. What breed is she? My old Lab went off his food, had a scan and had a huge spleen tumour removed within hours. He went on four more years, though he was 12 at the time. Larger breeds are more likely to suffer this. The only outward sign was a slightly distended tummy, where the hair didn't lie flat. Hope she picks up.

Are they over weight by any chance ? And are they passing urine ?

Twinstudy · 24/06/2024 16:13

Is it warm where you are? My old boy seems to be suffering far more in the heat than he used to.

Thank you all for your messages, I appreciate your replies.
Unfortunately Ddog went downhill as the evening went on and we helped her over the rainbow bridge this afternoon. I'm absolutely heart broken 💔 😭

Oh love I'm really really sorry. It's heart breaking ❤️‍🩹.

harriethoyle · 24/06/2024 16:42

Thanks @AmelieTaylor - it was her time. We had a lovely morning in the garden, I brought her bed out and she just slipped away very peacefully when the time came.

I am so sorry for the loss of your precious girl. You obviously loved her very much and she will have felt that.

I am so sorry. We are a month down the line from you, and it is still so hard. They leave their paw prints on our hearts.

@harriethoyle oh that made me burst into tears, she's the spitting image of my girl who I lost many years ago. The absolute image.

Heart breakingly sad, but if it was 'her time' what a beautiful way to go ❤️

fieldsofbutterflies · 24/06/2024 18:36

Aw I am so sorry Flowers

But what a lovely way to go - on her bed in the sunshine, surrounded by her family 💜
