Change ownership details

I have a bull dog which was originally rescued. I have her micro chip number but don’t know how to find out who that is registered with. Need to change her ownership details to me.

Do you know the name of the rescue centre the dog came from? They should have the details.

You'll need to speak to whoever microchipped her to get permission to change her details.

The rescue should be able to help but I'd imagine they'll want to know why she wasn't returned to them in the first place.

You can get it scanned at the vet’s and they’d be able to give you the chip number and who to contact to change the details.

But the previous owner will be notified, rescued the to be dual registered so that the rescue is informed and they’ll take the dog.

Vets can scan, give you the microchip details and tell you which of the numerous chip companies they're registered with.

When I had to do this - ddog was registered to someone that wasn't the last owner, never found out who - I had to fill out a special form. The chip company wrote to whoever was on the chip and gave them 28 days to object. They didn't, so they reregistered his chip to me.

They'll probably assess OP as a potential owner, but unless there's something wildly unsuitable then I doubt they'll take the dog back. There's far too many dogs in rescue at the moment to start taking them back willy nilly.
