Please tell me your favourites. Long or longish lasting preferred. I'm trying to order some but am totally overwhelmed by choice.

We currently have a box of cow hooves slowly being worked through. I do recommend them, but after the initial 'ooh new hoof!' excitement, they are only of sporadic interest to ddog.

All ears are loved but eaten in under a minute.

Chicken feet have been popular, but I feed raw chicken wings now so thought I'd try something new.

I've had some scary experiences, the worst being her eating splintered bone from a lambs leg. I'm looking at cow tails because apparently they're long lasting, but it says bone, so thinking the same might happen?

What about pizzles? Trachea? Cow udder? Braided lamb gullet?

I'm still umming and ahhing over an ostrich bone. I just can't believe it will last with a honeycomb structure. I've also read reviews about people being sent tiny ones or getting a different animal bone altogether, so if you have a good one, where did you buy it from?

Are yak bars actually any good for them? I used to buy them when she was a puppy but they mostly got lost in the garden.

TIA!

I buy pick and mix from a local supplier and let my dog choose.

1st choice every time is a furry rabbit ear, closely followed by deer ear. Then it's beef tails, fish flatties and tripe. We also life fish skin cubes and necks. Feet not so much. Rabbit skins are also a favourite although she makes a mess with those. She used to like puffed snouts but again, her tastes have changed. Yak bars are good but for limited times as she demolishes them. She loves tracheas but they give her the runs a bit as I think they are rich so we don't tend to feed them now.

My dog is a small border terrier and a strong chewer.

fieldsofbutterflies · 14/06/2024 12:25

Favourites in this house are braided goat or camel, ostrich, beef skin, tracheas, pig snouts (though they don't last long) and buffalo skins.

MuttsNutts · 14/06/2024 13:49

Ostrich bone is a firm favourite here. It doesn’t splinter at all because of its honeycomb structure and keeps her busy for ages. When she has a new one I limit to about an hour all day or she’d be at it all night. When it’s older and less exciting I leave it in her toy box and she still has a go at it every day. I get mine from here and they are always massive and they are currently reduced to £14.49 which sounds a lot but worth every penny.

Mine loved yak bars as a pup but went off them then liked them again too much because she got through them too quickly and they’re not cheap.

Beef head skin
pizzles (they honk)
Cow ears last longer

Ourshoddyhouse · 14/06/2024 19:34

Pizzles
Yaks

We have a very keen chewer. Only treats and toys thankfully. I was very sceptical about olive wood chews but they have been a big hit. Our local pet store have braided goats skin which she really enjoys. Yak sticks and antlers have always been popular. I have very inquisitive toddlers around so I'm a bit reluctant with some of the more interesting chews! Also I found they would end up half buried in the garden and then come back into the house which never seems to happen with yak sticks! I have reverted to buying in person as it's been really variable online

HariboFrenzy · 15/06/2024 08:41

Get ours from JR Pet products online. 11mo lab loves pizzles - they do odourless ones (they still have a slight odour but much reduced), yak bars, ostrich - feet and knuckles are a favourite. Have also bought camel/buffalo skin. I tend to order a big box of stuff every 6 weeks or so.

ManilowBarry · 15/06/2024 09:09

Some of our pack are large breeds and a chew that the smaller dogs would take ages to eat are finished in seconds!

We mostly buy from the range by Smartbones - www.petsathome.com/product/listing/dog/dog-treats?filters=brands_attr-Smartbones

We buy these for our Doberman, Rottweiler, Belgian Malinois and Bull Lurcher -

Mine loves a pizzle, the ones sold by Boodles on Amazon last longer than the ones from the local pet shop.

He's got the remains of some sort of tail still, not sure what it was but it's lasted ages. He does like a chicken foot but tends to eat them on my bed and then I end up with bits of chicken foot in my bed!

I get the B&M cheese bones rather than the Yak ones, the small are only £2.99.

Pinkdaisie · 15/06/2024 20:19

Hairy bully tails. They stink but last ages.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 15/06/2024 20:28

Mine is not allowed antlers or hooves as she lays down and crunches them up, not good for teeth.

For a long lasting but stinky treat she gets camel scalp

Another vote for ostrich bones. The structure is very different. Our dogs go back to them every day. Paddock Farm are good.

GelatinousDynamo · 16/06/2024 15:43

My dog loves horse skin. It lasts for up to an hour.

Unluckycat1 · 18/06/2024 10:08

Thanks all! I went for an ostrich bone in the end, bought one in person, and she really does love it. For the first hour she was play bowing to it and prancing around it Grin great to have so many other suggestions though as I'm limiting how long she has it at a time.

@GelatinousDynamo that's interesting, I have given her goat skin before which was good value for money but not long lasting. I wonder if horse is tougher.

@NerdWhoEatsMedlar your dog crunches antlers up! wow! we are still on the very first antler I bought her as a puppy, which looks almost pristine.

A lot of votes for pizzles! I think they'll have to be the next buy.

My 2 mad spanners love dried venison skin - I get it from Floppy Ear in a 1kg box.

tizwozliz · 18/06/2024 10:20

Not much is long lasting for a lab. Beef ribs are my current go to if i want them occupied for more than a minute

https://www.naturesmenu.co.uk/beef-rib-chew-BBR.html

Am I right in thinking because these are raw I wouldn't have to worry about the bone?

Yes, they'll gnaw bits off the end of the bone but that shouldn't be an issue, they don't split into fragments. I just make sure I remove them before they get to a size where they might try to swallow them whole.

longdistanceclaraclara · 18/06/2024 13:52

Pizzles.

Pigs ears but they don't last long at all.
