Method to stop dog barking at dogs across the street?

My dog used to look away and ignore other dogs. Even the ones barking at her from across the street. But she has just started barking at them now for some reason. It’s definitely an anxious bark not a playful bark. Has anyone managed to successfully correct this behaviour?

Yes. Try pattern games and "look at that". Worked for me for dogs and cars

Oh thanks. Cars a bit of an issue too so will try that. What breed dog do you have if you don’t mind me asking?

Are you able to distract her with food or a toy, or is she too worked up? Scattering treats works for our anxious beagle.

I could probably distance with treats but wasn’t sure if that was the right way. I believe timing is important and them looking at the dog them back to me? Don’t want to make it worse accidentally

It's not easy because it depends whether you need to distract her in order for her to stay calm, or whether she can stay calm on her own without any kind of intervention, if that makes sense.

I know my beagle is okay with other dogs as long as he's a certain distance away, so I try and maintain that distance and scatter treats to keep him busy and to help calm him down. If we have no choice but to get close to another dog, I will just use treats to distract and to keep his focus on me. I also have no issue with ducking down a side street, turning around or waiting behind a car in order to keep him calm and focused.

He's getting much better and now seems to have made the connection that strange dogs = treats and will now (generally) look at me to get his treat whenever he sees one on a walk.

Do you just avoid areas where dogs are off lead?

No, I just keep my eye out for other dogs and swap routes if needed.
