We have a 9mo old small-medium mixed breed pup. This is our first female that wasn't spayed when we got her.
About 4 weeks ago we started to suspect she was coming into season due to minor changes to behaviour. Everything I have read says you might not notice/signs maybe be minor
Almost 3weeks ago a friend who has un-neutered females had a look and said based on swelling she was almost certainly in season.
So we have been super careful since and keeping an eye on the swelling.
Just over a week ago we found one blood smear on the floor where she lies, but nothing else.
And then we have been thinking that she must be over her season.
Until today.....several more blood smears, and drops of bright red blood over a few hours.
It's not how I expected being bright red....not discharge like. But I am mostly confused by the timing.
Is this now the start of her season? Or did it still start 1,2 or 3 weeks ago?
Does the bleeding stop and start? Can anything trigger it?
