Using the poo bins in the park

We live opposite a small park. There are 5 dog poo bins around the park, one at each of the three pedestrian entrances and two in the car park. The one nearest us is the least used as hardly anyone goes in/out of that entrance.

I walk our dog in the park most days, and usually drop the poo bag into the bin at the entrance near us. It's quite often almost empty as I think I'm one of the few people who uses it.

When our dog poos in our garden, I bag it and drop it into our wheely bin. However, I'm.thinking maybe I should nip across the road and drop it in the designated dog bin. Would this be OK or am I taking the piss?

No. In the summer I collect the poo bags that are going in our house bin, and take them to the park. They stink in our bin otherwise.

Thank you. Our black bin is only collected fortnightly so to me it makes sense to stick them in the park bin but DH thinks it's a bit cheeky.

Makes sense.

I bag my dog poo from the garden and put it in the dog bins. Not leaving it for two weeks in my black bin.

JaimeLannister · 22/05/2024 13:10

My black bin is collected every 3 weeks and the poo bins are emptied weekly so yes, I put any garden poos in the nearest bin when I go for a walk.

Cotswoldbee · 22/05/2024 13:17

People do that here and they end up overflowing with poo bags all over the floor.
Seen people who live near me going up with a carrier bag of poo as soon as the bin is emptied meaning it is soon (over) full again.☹️

When I poo-pick our lawn, all the bags go in a plastic bin in our garden and on bin day I removed the rubbish sack, tie it up and pop it in the wheelie bin.
As our poo bin has a close fitting lid it is completely smell free.

There's an old lady near us who bags all her actual rubbish and takes them to public bins, so she doesn't make her bin dirty 😂

EmmaGrundyForPM · 22/05/2024 13:34

@Cotswoldbee as I said, the bin opposite our house is hardly used by anyone else as most people go in/out of the park by one of the other entrances. The bin is very often empty. I wouldn't do it if it was a well used bin.

You will be paying for the dog waste bin in your council tax (every one does) ...so just use it.

Yes! Including those of us that don’t own dogs.

Yeah our park bins go 2/3 times a week and I live 3 houses down the road and walk through it daily. Our poo bags end up there, in the summer because our black bins go every 3 weeks. Absolutely reeks in hot weather. I use the black bin in winter because it doesn't smell so no reason to remove the poops

I know, having been both, but it's a council facility, like leisure/schools/normal waste bins that people may or may not choose/need to use.

VeraForever · 23/05/2024 19:53

If you have a dog then deal with their poo.
Public bins , round our way, get full very quickly and people end up putting their poo bags on top of the bins.
I appreciate that this is a council problem but why would you not put your dog's waste in your own bin? It's your dog!

If you can't deal with their poos then you shouldn't have a dog.

You can buy bin sanitizers to make your bin smell like lavender and patchouli , I'm sure!

We bought a specific bin to keep in the garden, especially for the dog poo. We empty it the night before bin collection day.
