Not sure why I’m posting other than a release.

farmer’s wife. Know my dogs. Have many. Seen many. Show. Agility. Etc.

I have my little special house dog. Who chose me accidentally. Was a terrier for DH but wanted me. Came to work with me. My shadow. Saw me through many baby losses. Night supervisor when babies came. Wiped my tears.

we have a caravan. I come every weekend with her and children. DH came over today for lunch then was heading back to lambing shed.

I took her for a walk round the site and was walking by the football pitch. A French bill dog came from my left and that was it. I tried to pick her up. I was bitten which I don’t care but he ripped her harness off and then took after her. I couldn’t get her to safety. I was screaming. Lots of lovely people came to help. The owner eventually appeared and took her dog and never said a word.

I went straight to office and reported it. Turns out numerous people have had same issue. So I called police. They have been charged and told to leave.

my wee dog has had stitches and is shaking like a leaf. No doubt will now be terrified of dogs.

my saving Grace was that for the first time ever I didn’t have four under five with me because I didn’t want to think about how I would have explained or dealt with that.

im just so shaky and upset.

I'm not surprised you are shaky and upset, that was an awful thing to happen.

Your dog will still be quite stoned from the vet treatment. Fit in as many cuddles as possible. Hopefully you both have a better day tomorrow.

Galifia · 04/05/2024 22:49

I'm so sorry that happened to your little dog. How absolutely traumatic. I'm not surprised you are shaken and upset. You've done all you could in a horrible situation. I hope you have space and support to process it. Sending healing wishes for you both.

spiderlight · 04/05/2024 23:08

That's so awful - poor little pup, and poor you. You must have been terrified. I hope she heals quickly and isn't left too worried about other dogs. Shame on the other owner.

How awful. My own wee dog was attacked once by a german shepherd without any warning. The gs ran up behind him (my dog was not even looking at him) and attacked him. He nearly lost his eye and he got bitten very close to it. I was horrified and beyond upset and shouting at owner to 'do something'. She was just standing there watching it. It turned out not to be her dog but someone elses who she was looking after. I don't think she even realised what was happening.

My own wee dog did get back to normal and still is fine with most dogs but I think he is a bit more barky/fear aggressive than he used to be.

He also got chased by a pack of greyhounds (or other skinny dog type) when he was a puppy. 6 of them together off their lead chased him and I swear to god they were going to rip him to pieces. He has hated all 'skinny dog types' since then and will bark aggressively if we meet any whippets/lurchers/greyhounds so it obviously traumatised him. I had to pick him up and the owner was really nasty and said I had caused him to be scared of dogs by picking him up. Obviously much better to let him get ripped to pieces. Again no apology or remorse.

I called the police and reported the german shepherd one. Owner of dog denied it and tried to blame it on my tiny fluffy dog. Utterly awful and made me so very, very angry. No apology or offer to pay vet bill.

I'm so sorry for what has happened to you. You will both get over it to a degree although you will never forget and you will be more wary now as will your own wee dog.

Morale of the story - some people are complete nasty arseholes. Some of these arseholes own dogs. Hugs to you and your wee companion.

Oh, OP! I'm so glad she is okay.

She may well bounce back. One of mine has bounced back wonderfully (attacked by a Labrador when she was two). Dogs can be far more resilient than we'd expect them to be. And even if she doesn't - she has you.

It's horrible when they're attacked. Take some time to focus on you and her today if you can (although I appreciate with 4 under 5 that may be hard!)

heldinadream · 05/05/2024 06:44

Oh sweetheart that's awful.
How is she this morning?
And you, how are you now?
I hope she fully recovers. Will you be told what happens with the other dog? Do you want to know?
Big hugs. Flowers

BonsaiTeio · 05/05/2024 06:49

Poor little dog 😔 I hope she recovers soon.

hjrl · 05/05/2024 09:03

Thank you everyone. I didn’t sleep well. Just held her.

she has been out this morning and I spoke to a couple of people and she seemed ok with their dogs.

she’s sore though. One of the kids touched her and she growled so I’m going to leave today and take her home to farm. That doesn’t need escalating. At home I can split the kitchen so she’s in her own space.

im angry now. Just awful. 😞

I am so, so sorry OP. This kind of stuff makes me furious. I honestly don't know what I would do to the owner of any dog that attacked mine but I am pretty sure it would land me in prison.

I hope that your little girl makes a full recovery. Thank god you were right there on hand to help her.

brownbear201 · 05/05/2024 20:01

I'm sorry OP. I hope you know that you've done nothing wrong- I had enormous guilt over not protecting my dog when he was attacked, but truthfully, there was little I could have done. My own dog was attacked by a dog so severely that I thought he had been killed. It attacked us from behind so we had no idea it was there until it latched on to his neck. He was rushed into emergency surgery and thank goodness, pulled through.

He is now frightened of the breed that attacked him but is ok with dogs otherwise. I hope your girl recovers the same- dogs are quite resilient. I am not quite as resilient and it's been a hard road for me but we are getting there. Best wishes x

ilovesushi · 05/05/2024 20:50

So sorry this happened to you and your dog. xxx

cranberrypi · 05/05/2024 20:52

sending lots of love to you and your friend
