Why do dogs eat everything

My dog won’t eat her food if it’s been refrigerated. But I don’t understand why she doesn’t also naturally know not to chew and swallow fluff, non-food items in general that are small enough to fit into her mouth, old bits of food that have missed the bin, crumbs etc. she will even make a big effort to get to things she shouldn’t eat and will chew on wires. she often makes herself sick, it is hard to clean everything or make sure that there is nothing she can get to. She is in and out of the vet, I don’t want her to be ill and I feel neglectful

Not totally sure what you are asking but if wet dog food is being refrigerated, make sure it is removed from the fridge and is not cold (at least room temp) before feeding it to your dog. No one wants to eat cold food. It feels cold and unpleasant in the mouth and is also less tasty.

If I forget to get it out of the fridge in time, I give it a few secs in the microwave and a good stir. You will smell how much yummier it seems when warmed up.

It’s because they are arseholes I’m afraid
one of mine is currently moping around wishing he hadn’t eaten whatever disgusting item he found on this morning’s walk 🙄
Hope yours is feeling better soon OP

Mine refuses to eat it wet hand warm, he likes it frozen. Or fed to him by hand, a mouthful at a time, or something which isn’t dog food.

He wants my apple core while I’m eat the apple. He doesn’t want it a minute later.

Apparently, The biggest cause of death in wild dogs is starvation. I feel that my Labrador read this part of the manual then stopped reading. She is an eternal dustbin, but the survival of her species depends on it 🤣

doodleygirl · 18/04/2024 13:45

Mine has no preferences, she will eat anything at any temperature, a doggy dustbin

BaconCozzers · 18/04/2024 13:48

Because they are strange little buggers op.

How old is your dog? Mine ate (or attempted to eat) various unsavoury items when he was young, but had largely outgrown this habit by the age of about 2.

Your dog eats frozen hands?

AGlinnerOfHope · 18/04/2024 14:43

Oh dear. Wet and warm!

He might like frozen hands, I’ve not tried

I assume, if he were allowed grapes, he’d like them peeled and dropped into his mouth, too.
