Dog friendly hotels in North of England

Looking to do a two night break next weekend with our dog. Haven't taken him to stay in a hotel before so really looking for recommendations of somewhere to stay which is dog friendly and close to some good walks. Yorkshire Dales or Lake District would be good. Have been googling but it would be good to get a personal recommendation.

I’d try a holiday let tbh. This soon before a booking they will 100% have some amazing offers on (when hotels don’t), will have a garden and way cheaper than a hotel. Money saved on that can be spent on meals out if you don’t want to cook.

Borrowdale hotel is alright and Rothesay Manor is also okay. Hygiene standards in rooms aren’t ideal (pet hair…) IMO

Thanks, I did think about a holiday let but thought two nights might be too short a let. We want Sun/Mon night so not peak Easter weekend.

Ooh definitely the old Vicarage in Ambleside.

Its a Bnb and very dog friendly. They have an open roaring fire, and under the staircase there's an ice machine with glasses, and corkscrews! They're not licensed but leave a list of the local shops where you buy your own!
Lots of dog friendly places nearby.

Also has a small pool and sauna.

The hosts are truly lovely people.

I stayed at the Lord Crewe Arms in Northumberland a few years ago (without a dog) and had a wonderful stay. There was a lot of walks to do in the local area.

The Inn at Whitewell - amazing place and the food is 😙

Travelodge are dog friendly for basic accommodation.

Spidey66 · 24/03/2024 20:16

If you don't mind somewhere basic (but clean and affordable) Travelodge let you bring dogs but you need to let them know in advance as they have a certain % they keep as doggy rooms.

We stayed in Armathwaite Hall by Bassenthwaite in the Lakes, it was fabulous! Amazing food, gorgeous grounds, and if the weather is nice enough Bassenthwaite is lovely to swim in (for you and the dog!)

I would have 💯 recommended the Beck Hall at Malham, lovely rooms, great walks, fab food, lovely staff, dog friendly but …..

they went plant based recently and for me it’s ruined the experience. However if you’re vegan or can manage toast for breakfast and nip round to the Lister Arms for dinner I’d still go.

TerfTalking · 24/03/2024 20:26

following On from the above, The Lister Arms is dog friendly too.

as well as walks in Malham and Malham Tarn, you can go a little further afield for great walks. We like Grassington.

Thankyou everyone! I don't do Travel Lodges though. Looking for a country pub type vibe.

The Joiners Arms near Alnwick!

Complete country pub, right beside beach walk and we even had a room with a hot tub. Dog loved it.

Rothay Manor in Ambleside is a good choice. The dog friendly rooms have their own terraces, and the chef was a Great British Menu winner a few years back.

if you’re after a country pub try the Coach and Horses in Bolton by Bowland. Food is amazing!
