Fox poo stench

My darling Twatterdale has covered himself in it. He's been bathed in ketchup and dog shampoo but it still smells. I've read to use bicarbonate of soda. But how? Won't it hurt his skin? Any other tips other than re bathing every hour ?! Stinky beast.

Ketchup then fox poo shampoo is what works best IME.

ApolloandDaphne · 28/02/2024 19:16

Fox Poo shampoo every time. It is the best.

NCForQuestions · 28/02/2024 19:17

Vinegar! White vinegar is best. Soak the dog, then shampoo out twice. Job done.

The acetic acid is the chemical in ketchup which works on the stink so vinegar is what you need!

Vinegar we have. I'll have to get him back in the bath. He KNOWS he smells. He trots off to the bath looking sorrowful that I'm removing his lovely, carefully applied cologne of choice .

The cheapest, nastiest own-brand vinegary ketchup you can find, marinate him in that for 10 mins and then wash with Fox Poo shampoo!

PollyOrange · 28/02/2024 19:22

Marinate 🤣🤣🤣

The only thing I ever found that worked was washing him in a tea tree based foaming facial wash - I then trained him not to roll in crap in the first place .

NCForQuestions · 28/02/2024 19:24

Know the face.

Mine rolled in something very dead and unspeakably awful once whilst at work with DH's friend (he was dog sitting as a favour). A hot shower and two hosing downs at his work did nothing.

When she came home it took two hot baths and half a gallon of vinegar to destink her. That was a bad day at the office for her!

How did you train this ? I need to know. I usually spot his pre roll manoeuvres and grab him as he almost lines himself up to dive in, such is the pleasure for him

Every time he rolled the walk ended immediately and he was straight home , he got the message pretty quickly . He’s a patterdale x so is quite bright . He hasn’t rolled in anything for about 6 years now and he’s offlead everyday .

PollyOrange · 28/02/2024 19:37

@Floralnomad maybe it's a Patterdale thing ? Good idea though. He was on a group walk today but if he does it with me I'll bring him home He's snuggled up to me now which is lovely and gross all at once.

@Dearg it’s a dilute mix , he currently is using a tea tree and oatmeal shampoo that according to my groomer is one of the nicest shampoos she’s used ( bugalugs)
