Surgery - wound not healing

My springer spaniel managed to rip her side open & needed surgery. Seemed to be healing ok - was a bit oozy but vet said it was fine.

Checked it at lunch time & noticed a few little holes between some of the stitches.

Vet wanted me to email in photos & then said to fast her overnight & bring her in tomorrow morning for potentially more surgery !

It's got worse since lunch time & I'm worried there won't be enough healthy skin to close the wound

Has anyone had similar & had a decent outcome ? Without involving the supervet Confused

Yes - we had a similar story (although a lot more dramatic). The vets wanted to put our boy down but thankfully we had an amazing one who believed in him and persevered for us. Months of vet visits, extra operations to take away rotten skin, antibiotics and manuka honey dressings later he was fully healed and good as new - lived another 5 very happy years. Even ended up as an interesting case in a veterinary journal..

That's great Smile I forgot about honey !
Thank you ! I'm sure I'm just panicking but that helps a lot

She had more surgery yesterday & vet admits he's not happy with it but let's see what happens Confused

I consulted my friend who's a vet nurse in small animal hospital & she said get her seen by specialist. They'll be able to fix her & get a good outcome

I asked for a referral to specialist for soft tissue & he refused. I've now managed to get it from the other vet so hopefully we'll get that over next couple of days
