1 yr old cocker spaniel is booked in for castration next week

What should we expect for after care. When can he go back to doggy day care etc. First dog and so no idea what to expect

Could anyone help please

Recovery is quick and usually straightforward. Expect your dog to gain weight if you do not reduce daily food quantities after neutering.

Lab neutered at 2 years 4 months. Zero change in anything, apart from that he now pees over every other bush instead of every bush.

We got a doggy baby grow rather than cone, much kinder on your legs. Just have to remember to undo the poppers before they go to the toilet (we made rookie mistake 😳)

Mine recovered within 48 hours but had to stay on lead walks for ten days. Your dog won't be able to attend daycare while he's recovering.

Plus one for the baby grow. Much better than the cone of shame.

if he has any problematic behaviour or shows any sign of anxiety then do the chemical first to see how it effects him. Castration contributed to my cocker becoming reactive.

My wildly lively dog would barely accept 24hrs house arrest after and he had on lead walks for the first 4 days, then off lead but no ball etc then by day 7 was back to normal wildness. I kept a good eye on the stitches as i knew i was taking things a bit fast but hes fine now 2 weeks later back to normal eating slightly more i think but no other changes.

I used the body suit which worked great, he licked a bit through it but was fine

My 6 month old was done last week. He has a suit and a cone and we swap between. He wees on the suit sometimes, even with the popper open because the way he squats! So then we wash and dry and he has the cone on. He prefers the cone for going outside, and toileting.

He is still on lead walks, but generally he seems fine. Still his happy, chappy self!
