I’m actually a little nervous walking my dogs now.

I know full well there is an English bull terrier that regularly escapes its garden lives around the corner from me. It’s also a fighting dog and has attacked a dog across the road from me! Dog wardens did nothing because it was dog on dog attack. Owner has been reported no end of times and yet the dog has never been seized. Or if it has, owner bails it out and it’s back to normal.

I have two small breed dogs that wouldn’t stand a chance against a bull terrier. I wouldn’t stand a chance against it either.

it’s not the only dog that escapes but it’s the worst. The other two they escapes also attack other dogs. Even through fencing but they are a bit further away and less likely to encounter.

What would you do?

Walk around the house then.. I don't know what you expect people to say. Poison the dog? There could be 'dangerous' dogs anywhere.

If it fits the dimensions of the new XL ban then it should be muzzled.
As for nothing being done re dog on dog, section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs act covers this and is a criminal offence. Some police forces are good on this others not so much.

Obviously our police force are useless because they don’t do anything. The owner takes the dog into the local shop even though dogs aren’t allowed. I think the owner is a threatening person because no one dares to say anything.

And yes I know you can encounter dangerous dogs anywhere but this is a fact of that I KNOW there is a dangerous dog that is within a 2 min walking distance that is a danger to me and my dogs

Section 3 it is then.If you don’t get a positive response take it further up the line of command with the police.

There are houses around here with dogs who make me uneasy - I just don't walk past that way anymore.

The police won't do anything until a person gets injured so until then I'm going to be do whatever I can to protect my dog.

Keep reporting it! There are some really rude people on this post.

Treehugger22 · 15/02/2024 01:41

I had the same issue with an American bulldog, broke my finger trying to get it away from my dog (she's also a bull breed) neighbour thought it was funny.
Always some idiot owner. Dogs need to be licenced
