orthopaedic bed for dog - any recommendations?

We have a nearly 10-year old smallish collie (she's 17.5kg) who has arthritis in her hips and one hock. I'm thinking about getting her a better bed as hers is old and a bit smelly tbh, and looked at some orthopaedic ones. They range a lot in price and I'm really not sure what to go for - I can't afford to spend the £250 odd that some of them cost (could go up to £150 at a push but would prefer £100 or less if possible). Does anyone have any comments, suggestions, recommendations? She likes to sleep on her back so quite enjoys a raised edge to prop herself up against.
TIA

Mine has an Orvis memory foam bed which he loves and is very supportive but
Orvis don't do theirs anymore - and they were ££££. However, this one looks like a similar compesition and has the benefit of a washable pad, which the Orvis ones didn't have.

Thanks very much - that looks interesting. I wonder if Orvis has become Red Dog Company, as their products look very similar and are similarly £££! I'd love one, but just can't manage it atm. https://thereddogcompany.com/

My elderly dog ( lab - 30kg) loves his Gor Pet nest bed, which has reversible covers -fabric/ furry , and which can be washed . He likes the furry sides at this time of year. I tried a calming bed for him and while it’s fine as a crash mat it’s not his favourite.

My younger dog likes her Tuffies bed but it’s not specifically designed for the older dog.

That Red Dog Company.... £75 for a bit of vet fleece! Shock

Definitely go for a memory foam bed. I got one a few years ago from Amazon, but it lasted really well up until we lost him. Also a tilted dog bowl really helped him with eating & drinking so that's definitely something to think about. Sorry I don't know how to link products!

Amista77 · 05/02/2024 15:03

Thanks @PinkflowersWhiteBerries I'll look those up. My dog likes her bed too, but I don't think it's doing her any favours.
@LimberlostLark I know!! (can't do emojis for some reason, my reply gets deleted, but <shocked face>)
@Vanillabourbon Thanks for the tip. She isn't that tall so doesn't appear to have any problems eating/drinking yet, but I'll have a look. Good to know that the memory foam thing is actually worth it.

We have a memory foam one from Sleepeezee, which we originally got as a test from Mumsnet many years ago. It's fabulous, we now have one in the car too, which has been transformational in terms of the (very large) dog settling. I can't recommend it enough!

My arthritic dog sleeps on an IKEA cot mattress. Not too expensive (around £75 I think) and it has a washable cover.

Edited to add: she has a duvet on top so there's something to snuggle into.

Ours is from baker and bray, it an orthopaedic bed with memory foam and padded raised edges, our dog loves it and lies on his back in it all the time .It's a bit spendy at £149 but worth it. We did end up putting a ruff and tumble cover on it because he was used to a solid bed before and kept pulling the cushion out of the middle of this one and flinging it around the house 😆

Mine has one from Knufflewuff. It's an orthopedic mattress and has raised sides. They are in your price range. They come in pretty colours too! (She is a bony whippet and is really comfy in it.)

I got my medium dog (15kg) an orthopaedic bolster bed from K9 Comfort - was suckered in by the 'Black Friday' deals, which seem to be available most of the year - Hmm - but it's a decent bed and a quarter of the price of big dog's luxurious Orvis closing-down-sale indulgent nonsense.
