IVDD - helping him to pee

Hi all.

8 days ago my little chihuahua suddenly couldn't use 3 of his legs, diagnosed with IVDD. Prescribed crate rest and anti inflammatory meds.

He's making amazing progress, can stand and walk. All be it with a wobble.

But weeing is an issue. I'm sitting outside with him for hours at a time waiting for him to go, he can't/wont

But then pees on his bed in his crate, I've got puppy pads in there and manage to make numerous beds out of cut of blankets. But he's starting to smell, I can't bath him just yet as he's normally traumatised by the bath so don't want him to have a step backwards!

How can I help him pee?

You need to speak to your vet about it. IVDD often requires spinal surgery and it sounds like the regime of crate rest + anti-inflammatory drugs isn't sufficient for your dog. Urinary incontinence might indicate that the spinal cord is compressed such that the dog can't control its bladder.

I've spoken to his vet, she's not concerned because he is still weeing, he's improved a lot in a week thankfully! So no surgery needed just yet x
