My dog will only drink out of the kitchen tap

DDog has recently decided he'll only drink out of the kitchen tap.

It's not a problem in itself but would rather he didn't.
He'll only drink out of his water bowl if the water is fresh each time.
The one exception is if we give him bottled water!
Just wondering if it could cause him any issues.
He's a 12 month old Weimaraner so can easily reach the tap.
Torn between teaching him to turn on/off the tap or discouraging altogether!
I'm primarily concerned that he's a deep chested dog who's breed is susceptible to bloat.

Mine likes fresh out of a certain tap too. Can’t see any problem.

That's what I'd hoped to hear.
He makes far less mess from the tap too.
He splashed water all over the place when he drinks from his bowl!

Silly question but what is his water bowl made out of is it metal or ceramic? I have a spaniel who at the age of 9 suddenly stopped drinking from his bowl and would only drink from the bath tap or from dirty buckets/puddles in the garden. Eventually figured out he didn't like the metal bowl as he'll drink out of a ceramic one with no issue 😅

Change the water bowl. Our rescue was terrified of her metal bowl because it made noises (clanged). A non-slip based ceramic bowl cost a fortune but she started drinking again!

If that doesn't work, look at the running water pet drinking fountains.

My terrier likes to drink fresh running water out of the bath tap. She will settle for fresh out of the tap in the bowl in the kitchen. Also partial to a manky puddle outside on a walk 🙄

Mine will only drink out of the toilet 🤢. He barks for a fresh flush when he wants a drink and I’m sure he wonders why we insist on peeing in his water bowls 😂.

Definitely not a bowl issue.
We had that with our old dog.
He'll drink out of his bowl if it's fresh water, as in changing it every time he wants a drink.
I'm reassured that he won't come to any harm using the tap so will continue with that.
Good to have some reassurance

Personally I wouldn't encourage him to drink directly from the tap for hygiene reasons - dogs are pretty gross, lol.
