Had to have one of our kennelled dogs put to sleep

We had to have our 16 year old working whippet put to sleep leaving his 14 year old son alone. We’ve brought him into the house so he’s not alone but he won’t settle. He’s never lived in the house. Should we put him back into his kennel so his routine and smells etc don’t change? We need to do what’s best for him and I feel we’re confusing him by bringing him into the house and trying to get him into a new way of life.

That's something that will depend on the individual dog - I think all you can do is try him back in the kennel and see if he seems happier there than in the house.

I would probably let them sleep/live where they normally would but just keep a close eye on them. I know one of our dogs pined dreadfully when our other dog died - so much so we had to get another one. What does a working whippet work as?

If he's the only dog in the kennel I'd bring him in.

surely he’s distressed because he’s lost his sire, not because he’s indoors?

I would keep his routine as normal as possible for now.
