I won't. I'm just venting 😭😭😭

But I have 2 dogs age 5 and 7. Completely toilet trained since pups.

A close friend got a puppy and suffered a serious bereavement just weeks after. Breeder wasn't interested so I took pup to find a rescue to take her. Nobody had room anywhere or could help. I couldn't trust anyone to take her from FB or anything. This went on for weeks and months and eventually I just stopped looking.

But she's not toilet trained at all. I do everything I didn't successfully with my other dogs but she's just stupid. She just continues to pee inside and poo inside and this has made my older dogs start doing the same!!

Now if it's Cole or wet non of them will go out. They hold their pees in and just sniff about and act like they don't need it.

I'm trying my hardest to stay out with them till they go but I have health issues and standing gin the cold is SO painful waiting for all 3 to go.

I'm coming down every morning to piss and shit.

I've bought them new beds to crate train them.

In th night someone has got off the couch, gone to the bed and filled it with piss
. I'm just on my last tether

I wish I never kept the youngest dog. She's just ruined all the hard work put in with the other 2. They were toilet trained for years before she same along.

Shutting them in the garden isn't toilet training... With practice they can wee to order. We have 4 and all wee together on command

I would never shut them out, if they're out I'm out with them.

And did you miss the part where I said my older dogs were 100% toilet trained before the little monster arrived? I did toilet training. They cracked it as puppies.

This one just seems broken.

She's a chihuahua mix

Yeah. That's the problem. Quite frankly, I've never met a chihuahua that was trained well. They are stubborn little pieces of work. This isn't going to get better, OP. I'm really sorry.

You'll either have to get rid of the little one and work on fixing the issues with the bigger ones, or just accept it.

SunnySideDownBriefly · 29/01/2024 09:55

Can you keep her separate from the other two? It sounds like she's the one who should be crate-trained rather than your other two. Will the crate go in a
different room to the other two? She'll need to be shut in when you aren't in the same room as her. It's her you need to focus on as I imagine the other two are only marking her spot each time.

Chitasaurus · 29/01/2024 09:56

How old is the youngest dog? Any puppy that isn't toilet trained by 6 months of age (other than the odd mistake) should be checked out by a vet, with a urine sample to test.

BeadedBubbles · 29/01/2024 10:17

@WhyAmINotCleaning - obvs I mean in the garden.

weaselwords · 29/01/2024 10:54

Some dog breeds just take aaaaaages to “get” housetraining. Daschunds are one and my Weimaraner was very slow to pick it up. You have my utmost sympathy.

Quite what the other two dogs’ excuse is, is another matter!

BeadedBubbles · 29/01/2024 11:00

My experience of toilet training is with labs - incredibly quick and easy as they are so food-focused. Once they make the connection between toilet and treat you've cracked it!

I understand some dogs are trickier!!

See she knows outside is the place to go and she knows she gets a treat if she does it there. She runs in and paws the treat drawer. So she is not entirely dim but it's like she just can't be bothered and just likes to pee on anything soft.

Have you considered walking them before dinner as opposed to after? They might learn that once they've been put and done their business they will go home for dinner.

Missingmyusername · 29/01/2024 11:39

I think a short walk later at night (even if it is just up and down the street where you feel safer).

Little dogs are always urinators imo.

Could you crate the nuisance dog overnight (I’m not a crater but this sounds unbearable!)

QuestionableMouse · 29/01/2024 11:45

Honestly @Nabooh I'd be looking for another home for her that's a better fit all around - somewhere a bit safer where she can go out on a late walk, and with one to one attention for her so you can focus on your other dogs. It sounds like you've tried your best and life is too short to be constantly cleaning up pee. Not sure if there's breed rescues, but the Dog's Trust are really helpful and may be able to advise a solution.

The person who bred her (guessing it wasn't a professional type breeder?) has been utterly negligent by not taking the pup back!

catelynjane · 29/01/2024 13:58

Chihuahuas are notorious for being hard to toilet train. Their tiny bladders don't help matters but they're also Mexican dogs and probably don't appreciate our weather very much Grin

I do wonder if your newest addition is a bit stressed having to live with two other dogs: She could be better as a solo pet, maybe?

She's been with us since 10 weeks and gets along with the other dogs great. She follows them round and they all sleep together in a pile. Never had any fights or issues. They're all little mates.

She's honestly not stressed.

I've had alot of dogs in my life and she is the first that's not been trained at almost 1.

@Nabooh

You have health issues and live in an unsafe area - you are clearly struggling and need to prioritise your own health and safety.

In your position I would rehome the youngest dog , you’ve tried your best and you shouldn’t feel guilty about this Flowers

It's lovely that they all get along, but for whatever reason, this situation clearly isn't working for any of you.

You now have three dogs who toilet inside the house on a daily basis, and your health and location means you can't get them out for the walks they all need.

I personally agree with PP that you should re-home the youngest.

Nabooh · 29/01/2024 16:53

I can't.

I've had her since she was a baby. My kids adore her. She's stuck to me like velcro.
I just think of her going to another house, not knowing where we are. Not knowing if they'll be kind to her or leave her alone all day. I'm always home so she's got me and her dog friends. She's never been left really!

There's too many bad people out there

My sister rehomed a dog and the family seemed lovely. They had him PTS a few months later! Was nothing wrong with him, they just didn't want to deal with him and no rescue would have him.

That's haunted me!

Nabooh · 29/01/2024 16:54

I won't rehome her. I'll walk her at night. I'll try anything to sort it. She's a good girl, she's just dopey :( It's not her fault.

OP posts:
catelynjane · 29/01/2024 16:56

If you won't re-home her then you really need to pull yourself together and sort this for all their sakes - and yours.

VioletladyGrantham · 29/01/2024 17:00

Mine won't go in the garden unless it is an emergency. Odd, but as puppies they would only go in the garden. Never out in public.
Try a temporary sand pit at the bottom of the garden, perhaps?

Kastri · 29/01/2024 17:02

Have you had her checked for a urine infection?
I had a chihuahua for 12 years and she was very smart and easily trained, people saying here its her breed,I dont agree.
Consider that she has a tiny bladder, she will need out more than bigger dogs. Not necessarily walks but out in garden.I know my dog had to go regularily ,at least half a dozen times just to urinate plus a couple of walks each day.

darkmodeera · 29/01/2024 17:03

It sucks it so dangerous where you live. The only thing is some dogs need a good run up before a poo and so need speed to get the old arse adrenalin going. Could you try running around the garden like a madwoman at 11pm and see if they'll run and shit? Then praise/treat. Obviously this sounds mad but just an idea.

*so many typos, very tired!

Nabooh · 29/01/2024 17:08

She's definitely not got a urine infection, she was at the vets just 2 weeks ago and not showed any signs of any issues.

OP posts:
NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/01/2024 17:10

Cats can start to urinate on soft furnishings when they've got cystitis, as they associate the litter tray/outside with stinging (or they're anxious they might be eaten by Gulls, a big old Tomcat or a blustery tree/it's cold/they're a bit dehydrated in hot weather).

Is it possible she could have learned that outside means a scary, loud, cold place with cold bits of grass poking into her and that makes her burn?

With the cat I had that started doing it, he stopped after I made a point of cleaning him with a wet flannel immediately he used his tray, as it took that 'need to do more because it's stinging' feeling away.

Kosenrufugirl · 29/01/2024 17:14

Do you think your last dog might have a weak bladder problem? Have you spoken to a vet? Just trying to brain storm

Nabooh · 29/01/2024 17:14

I'm going to take them out at 9pm.

That's the latest I'd feel semi comfortable and hope that does the trick.
