Is it worth investing in a good shampoo?

My spaniel has lots of off lead run outs in local fields so needs regular clean ups.
I have tried various dog shampoos including some pricey ones but I find that none really seem to give any different results.
Heavily scented ones don't mean that he is left smelling sweet and I never see a difference to his coat particularly.
The best one I have used is a basic range Pets at Home one for dirty/ smelly dogs.
Can anyone recommend a good one or am I wasting my time and should just stick with the basic one.
Thanks

Spaniel here too, they are mud magnets aren’t they?!! I try to mostly just rinse with water but when shampoo is needed I use one by Animology (the general Dogs Body one) - it’s the best one I’ve found as his skin can get itchy with after washing. Of yours is fine with the one you’re using though I wouldn’t change

Hi, we a 6 month old cocker,
He's filthy, all the time as you know how they are attracted to the most mud available 😂
We use bugalugs baby fresh? ( Pink one)
Smells for days after, might be worth a try?

We use Animology Puppy shampoo on our beagle who is also a muck magnet. Only costs about £3 and lasts ages. I like that it's not too heavily scented and it's never irritated his skin or caused any problems.

We use whatever I pick up in Poundland. It's never caused a problem.

Our dog has a few skin issues and the vet suggested an oatmeal based shampoo . We bought the Bugalugs Oatmeal and tea tree and took it for the groomer to use and she said it’s lovely . He was bathed almost 2 weeks ago and his coat has massively improved just with the one wash .

I quite like Pet Head. It’s on the pricier side but I do find the scent lasts longer

Thanks all I will check out all the suggestions I like the sound of the bugalugs products.
He has just had a post walk shower with something from TK Maxx.
