Looking for a family pet - possibly a cocker- joined fb groups but just not sure how to find the right fit. Any advice? Do I just post I'd like a puppy?

OK sorry should have explained. We've had dogs before. Dh always had dogs- labs, cockers and collie amongst others. 2 dh8& 10 lots of walks and dh works from home so will do walks in day. Not wanting a rescue for lots of reasons. Want cocker snow breed probably.

As a former behaviorist, I would always recommend an older rescue dog (from a reputable rescue who properly asses the dog and home) as a first-time owner, one who has passed the difficult puppy and adolescent stages.

Rescue dogs don't always have "baggage" and puppies are not "blank slates".

Why a show cocker?

I’ve had three. They are not easy.

oh dear

This isn’t going to be pretty

Hmm. Some interesting "i'd like to get slammed for being an idiot with a puppy" psost today, aren't there? Must be taking over from "I'm an NHS manager whose staff do SFA".

If you want a show cocker and have thought through how you'd fit one into your lives in terms of costs, dealing with puppyhood, training and exercise, contact some breeders. Even the good ones don't have much in the way of waiting lists at the moment - I know a very well-respected gundog trainer and breeder who health tests to the hilt and he is barely breeding currently.

Also visit breeders to see if you like their set-up and to meet dogs of the breed.

If you want a show cocker, I would go to the kc website and find a breed club local to you.
Contact the secretary and ask for information on any planned litters. This way you will get recommendations of reputable breeders who health test.
