From West Wales Poundies dog rescue (Facebook page)

www.facebook.com/westwalespound

I've removed donation details as I didn't think it would be allowed but have put links to their website and to their Facebook page.

22 precious dogs kept in an appalling state.

I'm posting as not enough people understand the cruelty and suffering that goes on in the world of backyard breeding.

'On Friday we had an urgent call to help a lady who was struggling to care for her dogs. She had bred dogs for many years but with ill health and various other issues she’d began to struggle and was no longer able to cope.
Right or wrong I am grateful she reached out, enabling us to get the dogs the help they so desperately needed.

So Saturday we had the mammoth task of removing the dogs. Well I don’t think anything ever prepares you for this, no matter how many times you’ve been involved in these situations and this one was no different.

We eventually removed 22 cocker spaniels of varying ages from 8 week old pups to seniors of 14.

Apart from the pups many needing urgent vet treatment 😞 some have chronic ear infections, one has a nasty infected bite wound on his face, a lot have nasty eye infections, most need a dental as they are struggling to eat and their gums are infected, many have varying lumps and bumps and all need vaccinating and neutering. Many of the oldies are extremely thin so could have underlying health issues that will need investigating.

They are extremely matted, all very dirty and in dire need of some tlc.
They are confused and bewildered at the upheaval of being moved, as sad as it is they might not have had the best life but it’s the only life they’ve ever known. But despite this they are all sweet dogs who desperately want to trust us and be loved.

Lucky for them we have a fabulous team at wwp who all rallied round and went the extra mile to get these dogs to safety. Our loyal fosterers stepped up and rushed to collect the oldies and pups, so 10 quickly went to foster homes.

The rest will remain in kennels for now until they find either a foster or forever home. They are all in lovely warm kennels, with clean bedding and full bellies.

The cost of getting all 22 back to full health will no doubt cost thousands, but we just couldn’t turn a blind eye.

  • 2 of the most urgent spent the day in the vets today, Diablo had his infected bite treated, nearly all his teeth removed and the infection inside his mouth treated. Sofi has the worst ear infection, this has now been flushed and treated. Both must have been in so much pain and they have obviously been suffering for some time. '

If you click on the photo it brings up two more attached to it and there are many more photos on Facebook of the horrific state the dogs were in.

It really does beggar belief.

That's shocking. Poor dogs :( thank you for sharing the link.

This is one of the <very rare> cases where the RSPCA would have acted and as they have powers to prosecute would have been better than a private rescue taking them surely?

I in all conscience couldn't donate to any rescue who is happy to take dogs in such horrific conditions and not involve the authorities.

It looks like it's not an official rescue, and just a well meaning but naive woman rehoming these dogs to me.

Utter nonsense.

It's not a one woman band at all.

I have no affiliation with them but have long seen what they do to help dogs.

'We are a small registered charity dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in council pounds. After dogs arrive at the pound, the dogs have just 7 days to be claimed by their owners. After the 7 days have passed, if there is space available, they will come into the care of West Wales Poundies Dog Rescue. If there isn't space, they may be destroyed. WWP provide a lifeline to the pound dogs.
A small number of dogs come in our care via other circumstances.

With the exception of the kennel staff we are all volunteers and depend on your help to save the life of the pound dogs. If you can help by fundraising, donating, fostering or sharing our dogs rehoming profile, it will all help save a life.
Together lets make sure no dog dies needlessly.
We are based in Carmarthenshire, near Llandeilo'

In that case they will know the importance of reporting to the authorities.

It was a bit confusing reading the Facebook link as it seemed 1 woman was commenting as if she was the rescue, but may just be affiliated?

I'm happy to admit I've read it wrong if I have.

I can vouch for this rescue.
My sbt bitch came to me as a foster (with the option to adopt) 11 years ago.
They saved her and her mum from the pound and I am still regularly in contact with wwp now keeping them updated on what Lyl has been up to.
A friend of mine has several dogs from them and is currently fostering 2 older cocker spaniel bitches from the case mentioned above.
Photo added of my girl, saved by wwp, who will be 13 in May.
