How am I supposed to let him go?

My poor boy is dying, the vet wants to pts.
He's not in any pain and I know I have to let him go but I don't know how.

I can't stop crying.

I was in your position very recently and it's the most heartbreaking decision you will ever have to make. It's the final act of kindness you can give them even though it doesn't feel like it at all. Hugs to you

Oh I’m so sorry. I had to have my old boy PTS a few weeks ago when his health went downhill rapidly. It’s utterly shit but as said above it’s the one last kindness you can do for them.

I had to let my girl go earlier in the year. It broke my heart but it was the last gift I could give her. To take away the stress. I'm sorry you have to go through this too. It's the sad price we pay for the years of love we get blessed with

Sending you and your darling boy lots of love OP. It is a truly heart breaking thing to have to do - I am on my 4th dog but all the love and comfort they have given me over the years and the loving home I have given them - well I would not have wanted to miss out of them. Your boy was clearly very loved and he is one of the lucky ones as so many dogs have terrible and short lives.
All I can say is that I am thinking of you both and we are here on MN for you.

I'm so sorry. It really is heartbreaking. Losing a beloved pet is horrendous. I spend more time with my dog than my dh and dc put together. I hope today is as kind as possible. Big hugs x

Im so sorry OP. Huge hugs to you. It’s the kindest, and absolutely hardest thing that we have to do for our pets. Our payback for the years of love and devotion they’ve given us.

It’s five years ago today since we had one of our beloved labs pts. I planted a Christmas tree over her in the corner of our field and it’s grown huge. My husband bought me a snow globe with her picture in. It’s gorgeous to see it every year when we get the decorations out. We also had a key ring made with her hair inside, so a bit of her still comes on walks with us.

It will hurt like heck for a while, but one day you’ll look back with a smile and treasure the memory.

Nothing much to add here OP just that I feel your pain. I had to get my 16 year old girl put down a month ago with incurable cancer. I miss her so much but I took her pain away. It's horrific but I gave her her dignity back. I miss her soooo much and imagine that she come into my bedroom at night. My other wee dog misses her alot. I am thinking of you OP and here if you need to chat. Hold him close to you tonight xxx

My darling, darling boy is gone.
He went to sleep so gently and I was with him the whole time. My heart is broken. I will miss him forever.

So sorry for your loss.my boy was put to sleep a couple of months ago and I still cry regularly.

He is peaceful now, in time you will remember all the fun times , you will still miss him though .
