Thin skinned lurcher lost a bit of weight

She’s seen the vet, who is happy with her - she’s eating fine, and behaving normally, nothing concerning.

I suspect she’s a bit cold, but would this cause her to lose weight?

She hasn’t lost much, but as she’s greyhound shaped even a little bit is noticeable.

The heating is on in the house but it’s still on the chilly side (I’m comfortable with a fleecy jumper on).

I’m upping her food a bit, but I think she needs a jumper, but ds says I’m being ridiculous as she’s a dog. Might it help her? My instinct is that if I need a jumper to be comfortable, she might too.

Your DH is ignorant. Two minutes on Google would tell him/you about these dogs thin coats and their need for extra warmth. I can't believe she has suffered through 4 cold winters so far without you bothering to check this. Maybe her youth kept her going but now she's 4, she's showing you she's having a hard time with it.
Make her next winters onwards comfortable please.
This makes me mad to read.

I'd love to see a photo!

The only thing faster is a real greyhound.

She hasn’t suffered, this is the first time it’s been a problem. She has blankets, warm beds, access to sofas and duvets.
She has a cave bed but can’t get the hang of getting under the blanket bit and ends up on top.

I’ve recently returned to work, the previous few years she’s had me at her beck and call most of the time. It’s only in the last few weeks that the dogs have been left for a few hours a week.

The change in circumstances as well as a chilly house without a servant on tap to issue blankets is likely to be the issue, and I’m hoping extra food and a jumper will solve it.

It's not just fur they lack, they also have very little body fat to keep them warm. Fleece is lightweight but warm, and they soon get used it if it fits well. Mine is wearing a fleece and has been practising walking around without disturbing his fleecy blanket folded into 4 layers and draped on top. He currently wears a fleece in bed too, otherwise he steals the duvet off my DHs feet.

Have you tried putting treats inside the cave bed to encourage her to get inside, rather than on it?

soddingweddings you sure you haven't got a fox there...I mean that tail! She's gorgeous btw.
My old lab wears a jumper in the house and padded coat for walks, as she's eczema prone so gets bald patches.

She can’t do the blanket herself, she has a servant (me) who does it all for her!

Oh god, of course, silly me 🤦‍♀️ what was I thinking? It’s been a while since I’ve been a human slave to a grey, we lost her two Christmas’s ago…..I might be almost ready for another…

One thing though, if she keeps losing weight maybe get a second vet opinion cos our girl lost weight when she had pancreatitis. It was easy to manage once we knew but did need careful management and it’s not uncommon in greys or their kind. You have gorgeous aliens there ❤️

(Btw if they roll over on their back and they touch their nose to the floor, they’re contacting the mothership…..)

Yes I will definitely keep an eye on things!
The vet feels she has lots of nervous energy too, which probably doesn’t help.
