Golden retriever advice please

Hell there !
Think after lots of research and soul searching we are going to get a golden retriever. Have recently lost our lovely dog and have also stopped working so this seems an ideal time.
Reading on here lots of advice about being very particular about breeders.
Has anyone got experience of a good breeder? If so are you happy to share with me?
Thankyou in advance

If you're on Facebook join the group called 'Golden Retrievers - Sourcing Reputable Breeders UK'. There are some really good tips on there about avoiding dodgy breeders and the admins are really helpful at pointing you in the right direction. We found our pup's breeder through one of the admins

Be aware that although most GRs in the UK are show line, working line ones exist. The working lines of any breed tend to be a bit more dog IYSWIM - more active, more prey-driven, more easily bored. Working GRs tend to be more athletically built, a much deeper gold in colour and with shorter fur.

I could ask a friend where hers (show line) came from if you like - she has had several from the same breeder.

Yes please that would be great.
Our last dog was a cocker spaniel the breeder was incredibly good - our neighbour recommended her- and our experience with the breeder and consequently our lovely dog was so good I'd like to have that kind of recommendation again. We live opposite a forest so I see lots of dogs going for walks over there but strangely no GR mainly cockerpoo type dogs.

I second this - our breeder shows GR and hence breeds just one generation at a time, the group was invaluable and our boy is amazing. Our breeder remains in touch and we have a litter whatsapp group and meet ups that she arranges

Not much advice but good choice. They are basically sunshine and rainbows. I love mine xx

Working lines will generally have better hips and elbows due to being lighter. Working lines of any breed are usually healthier than their show line counterparts. Goldies are very prone to hip and elbow issues so make doubly sure you understand the testing and scoring system and that the breeder/s you put on your shortlist do all relevant tests and that you see the paperwork and double check them (lots of the test results are available through the Kennel Club site if you have the KC name of the tested dog - you will need the KC name of both parents as both parents will need to be tested for most things).

The Golden Retriever Breed Council (UK) might be helpful. Generally regional branches of the breed club are good places to start for advice and puppy contacts, as they are devoted to the breed and the well-being of it. https://www.goldenretrieverbreedcouncil.co.uk/#

Congratulations on making such a good choice. They are such wonderful dogs, I have been lucky to have them in my life for 40 years. My current boy is half working line half show, he is absolutely gorgeous. Would you like me to PM you with the breeder?
